I received V is for Vulnerable as a part of my "Kickstarter" package for The Icarus Deception. What a great surprise. I read V and thought about having books read to me as a child. When we were young, the books read to us were about dreams, love, friendship and joy. As we grew, we were taught something entirely different. We were taught how to be afraid mostly. Afraid that we wouldn't be accepted, that we wouldn't be successful, that we wouldn't receive approval. This book is for adults who want to once again learn about dreaming, loving and being joyful. So, after you read V, gather up those "grown-ups" that you really care about and help them to unlearn safety by reading this book out loud to them. Let them sit on the floor in front of you and enjoy the illustrations as you read. Thank you Seth and Hugh for a keepsake that I can't wait to give away!

First, I must say that I am an avid fan and admirer of Seth Godin. I have read many of his books, and I get his daily blog posts. However, his philosophy is starting to age, and it seems to me that he is looking for new ways to make it appealing and to sell product (aka, "art"). Just like the smash hit by John Gray, "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus", Godin seems to be publishing new books with appealing graphics and catchy titles that just regurgitate much of what he has said previously in his earlier works. I see that in "The Icarus Deception" as well.

As for this book, I read through it in about 10 minutes and returned it. There's nothing new here except for a few rarely-used words like "zabalione" or "xebec". That doesn't justify the cost of the book. I am hoping that Godin has an epiphany in the coming year such that new material that really stimulates is revealed.

Well done, Seth and Hugh!
I purchased this book as part of a Kickstarter package in funding The Icarus Deception, and after reading it, it nearly instantly became a classic and treasured book on my shelf.
Each page alone is worth the price of the the entire book, for its ability to make me think, inspire me, and make me smile.
My favorite letter is "U", as I've always detested umbrellas. You'll have to purchase the book to learn more.
For years, I've been giving outgoing interns at our company a copy of the book "Oh the Places You'll Go" to inspire them on their journey. Beginning now, they'll all receive this book instead.

Anyone who has already read a book by Seth Godin, or by Hugh MacLeod, knows what to expect. You won't be disappointed.

Anyone who hasn't (where have you been, the ISS?) should buy this book as an intro. to the iconoclastic but no-less-relevant thinking of both authors.

It takes about 15 minutes to read. I challenge you not to reach for another of Godin's books once you've read this one.

As he says here and elsewhere, the future doesn't have to be fair to be real. The world that people like me bought into 30-odd years ago doesn't exist anymore. It makes life interesting (difficult) to say the least, but this book and others help with the thinking we need, to make those difficult decisions about our own futures. Knowing that we are not alone surely helps.

As for SUCCESS: dipping into this book, S is for shame, the flip side of vulnerability. U is for Umbrellas, which stop us getting wet. But that's the point. Why use one? C is for Commitment, the only thing that gets us to where we need to be, that takes an idea to something that ships. And E is for Effort, which is not the point. Impact is the point.

I was lucky enough to buy this as part of Seth's Kickstarter project, along with copies of The Icarus Deception and his behemoth collection of earlier works. Buy this book.

I purchased this book as part of the Kickstarter package which funded The Icarus Deception.

In all his books, Seth Godin teaches powerful ideas that change our worldview and will lead to positive change when we implement them. There's a dodgy bit, though- we have to Start. It's obvious yet still worth stating that reading alone is not enough- we best serve ourselves and our community when we Start (and then sustain) something meaningful. And yet it turns out that Starting is surprisingly rare in our world.

Well, V Is for Vulnerable is just the thing. If you have that great idea, that project that will change things, that desire to "raise a ruckus" but are hesitating on the brink, this little book is just the thing to give you a nudge- the nudge where you say, "Oh, OK, here I go!!" and then you leap.

And that's an excellent thing for a book to accomplish.

More awesome from Seth

Got my two autographed copies thru the Kickstarter project -- one to keep, one to give.

If you already are a fan the book is a fresh take on the world view that you can make the things you want happen if you get out of your own way. As a gift, it shares the message one illustrated page at a time.

Thank you, Seth, for always helping.
