This review is from: Isaac Asimov Presents the Best Fantasy of the 19th Century (Paperback)
This anthology of "fantasy" consists largely of ghost/supernatural stories and unusual happenings in the then contemporary world. A couple of the stories are arguably science fiction. If to you "fantasy" suggests dragons, elves and other worlds, this book is not for you. The only story that fits this mode is "The Snow Queen". There is no George MacDonald, Andrew Lang or William Morris. On the plus side, every author in the book is a giant (or at least a very tall man) of literature, and the literary quality of this book is fairly high. The complete contents of this book are:

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Washington Irving
Federigo, Prosper Merimee
Dr. Heidegger's Experiment, Nathaniel Hawthorne
The Overcoat, Nikolai Gogol
A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens
The Snow Queen, Hans Christian Andersen
Hands Off, Edward Everett Hale
How Much Land Does a Man Need, Leo Tolstoy
The Canterville Ghost, Oscar Wilde
Lot No. 249, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
The Bottle Imp, Robert Louis Stevenson
The Christmas Shadrach, Frank Stockton
Black Heart and White Heart, Sir H. Rider Haggard
The Man Who Could Work Miracles, H. G. Wells
