Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

K-Gr 2-Isabella, an imaginative, little purple-haired girl, discovers that reading is an adventurous and magical journey when her parents take her to the library, which turns into a whimsical dreamland of classic children's literary scenes. Isabella envisions herself as the flying Peter Pan, the suspicious Goldilocks, the daring Captain Nemo, the beautiful Black Beauty, and the fanciful Alice in Wonderland. Her just-as-curious stuffed mouse appears in every scene, always accordingly dressed. After her visit to the mythical land of Oz, Isabella follows the yellow brick road back to reality-the checkout desk. Summaries for and interesting facts about the tales mentioned are appended. Colorful mixed-media art fills each spread, enough to tell the animated read-aloud on its own. The dreamy, vivid illustrations are similar to murals in many children's departments in public libraries. Storytellers will appreciate the introductions to the classics as Isabella discovers that all it takes is a library card and an imagination to soar through timeless tales.-Krista Welz, The North Bergen Public Library, NJα(c) Copyright 2011. Review

"Isabella, an imaginative, little purple-haired girl, discovers that reading is an adventurous and magical journey when her parents take her to the library, which turns into a whimsical dreamland of classic children's literary scenes . . . Storytellers will appreciate the introductions to the classics as Isabella discovers that all it takes is a library card and an imagination to soar through timeless tales." - School Library Journal

"It's a match made in book-reading, library-loving heaven." - USAToday.com

"The third book in a richly rewarding series . . . Fosberry has found a wonderful way to engage a whole new audience while making our trip down the rabbit hole all the more meaningful." - Good Reads with Ronna

"Isabella gives new meaning to jumping into a book. The pages are designed as a kind of puzzle, challenging young readers to name each book Isabella has found. It's made for a read-aloud with grown-ups, who will appreciate the two pages of background on the six classic books in which Isabella immerses herself." - USA Today

"Fosberry's story is delightful. " - Terri Schlichenmeyer, Bookworm Sez

Isabella, Star of the Story by Jennifer Fosberry

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What a cute story about a child's search for stories we all know and love. Isabella's hunt for library books takes the reader through her imagination and many different stories (Peter Pan, Goldilocks, Captain Nemo, Black Beauty, Alice in Wonderland, and The Wizard of Oz) all in the search for the perfect library book(s) to take home. The illustrations were very pretty and very descriptive. I would definitely read more Isabella books.

This is the 3rd Isabella book in the series. It's great. My granddaughter "Isabella" loves it. I also have 1 Alexander book by this author, I wish she would write more as my grandson "Alexander" thinks it's not fair his sister got 3 books about her and he only got 1! All in all this is a great book!

This is one of my favorites because it has all different characters from famous children's movies and my daughter loved it. It's a must have. Especially if your child likes books and it gives the child an imagination. Author of these series did really well.

I am a big fan of the Isabella books. The illustrations are beautiful, colorful, and engaging. I just love Mike Litwin's artwork.

This particular story is very fun and adventurous. It references a lot of classic story books. While I thought this book was really well done, my favorite is still My Name is Not Isabella.

I like this author's stories. I like how she uses the little girl to go places around the world that are famous places. And I like the idea that Isabella has used the library to get books to read about these places.
