Book Description

When danger comes lurking in the night, most people run home and hide—safe behind a locked door. For others, though, running home isn't the answer. For these unlucky ones, when the front door closes and locks at night—the horror's not locked outside. It's locked inside.

Isabel Delgado knows all about horror. For nearly five years, her step-father subjects her to the kind of abuse and depravation that no child should ever have to endure. But Isabel survives. Her spirit is strong and she never gives up hope. On the morning of her 16th birthday, Isabel takes a stand. She wakes early, gathers her things in a school backpack, and with a last look behind, she runs. But Isabel's not prepared for what she finds.

In the third Danny Logan mystery novel, Seattle author M.D. Grayson brings Danny Logan and the entire team at Logan PI–"Toni" Blair, Kenny Hale, and "Doc" Kiahtel—back for their most exciting and most important adventure yet. Their mission—find Isabel and rescue her from the street gangs and the seething cauldron of teen-age prostitution and human trafficking.

About the Author

M.D. Grayson is the author of the Danny Logan mystery series including Angel Dance, No Way to Die, Isabel's Run, Mona Lisa Eyes, and Blue Molly. He lives on an island near Seattle with his wife Michelle and their three German shepherds.

Before becoming a full-time writer, Mr. Grayson worked in the construction industry, as an accountant for six l-o-n-g weeks (square peg--round hole), and as a piano player on the Las Vegas strip. When he's not writing, he loves zooming about on two wheels-- bicycles and motorcycles alike. In addition, he's a pilot, a boater, and an accomplished musician who's always ready for a jam session!

2.0 out of 5 stars Plot lost in gobbledygook... February 15, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I couldn't wait to put this book down. WAY too descriptive--if you like Grisham's style, don't even bother with this one. The author feels the need to inform his reader of every move he makes and what time it was when he did it. Every building Logan enters is cause for another long winded description of its style, windows, exact location--and then the rooms he enters within the building are described in minute detail, down to the color of the chairs he'll sit in--and what time he got there, and what time the other people entered the room. He frequently tells us what members of his team are wearing, and which day of the week he and his partner rotate music choices and who they're listening to and what song they're singing. And then we get the rehash of his military expertise (I understand some is necessary for first time readers). His conversational sections are almost unbearable due to the minutia and blathering. About half way through the book he actually writes (after some lengthy description or memory, who cared at that point) "But, I digress". I laughed out loud, literally---it took him half the book to realize it--I knew early on that this would be another slogging style book. I began to care less and less about the plot, what little there was, and skimmed more and more pages to get to the ending. I think it's safe to say that half of the book could have been edited out. Maybe some readers need all of the details but not me--a talented writer can get me into the story without cluttering it up. It's almost an insult to the readers intellect that Grayson thinks we can't infer some of the finer details without his help. If you think this is a long winded review, try reading the book--I dare you:)

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Author! September 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I discovered this author a few months ago and got hooked on his books immediately! I subscribed to his FB page and waited patiently for his next release. My recommendation would be to start with the first book in his series of Danny Logan novels and read every one of them, they just keep getting better and better. Have to go drop him a note to find when the next one will be available!

5.0 out of 5 stars Grayson continues to entertain... December 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I thought this was an excellent continuation of the Danny Logan series...I've read every book Grayson has written. Definitely a completely different story line, and one that left me with a pit in my stomach to know that it probably hits so close to home to many innocent children and teens out there. Still, It's something that should be talked and written more about, kudos to Grayson for increasing awareness.

He has an uncanny way if sucking his readers in due to the suspenseful way the scenes are set up, and the detail of the investigations. Despite the twists and turns of the storyline, the way Danny operates remains logical and personal...I always feel like I'm right there with the Logan P.I. crew :).

All in all, another good, fast paced read from this series, I look forward for the next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Victims without voices October 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
An abominable crime against the most innocent of victims, comes a little too close to home for Danny Logan who runs a Seattle based professional investigation business with Antoinette "Toni" Blair. While dealing with forced slavery of children there are yet again more roadblocks and delays to their romance, albeit, some road blocks are only in Logan's head.

As the team of specialists (Logan and Blair, with the firm's tech guru Kenny questioning his own relationships with a parade of young girlfriends and the stoic "Doc") interview a gang's victim who is pulled to safety, sort through records and put a toe across the line as they learn more than anyone would want to know about the crime of human trafficking. From a mother's admission of being blinded by denial, the team builds a case through good old fashioned surveillance and break through the red tape of various enforcement agencies with the help of a few well placed friends. With time running out, the Toni is torn from her shield of a stoic hard core persona, as her sister is swept up by the gang's hierarchy and put in peril, by her own desire to "help." And now, they have two people to rescue as the clock counts down.

For those who like a PI story with personality, the story is straightforward with more action than introspection, explanation over exploration, and just enough rationalizing by Danny to explain away any doubt we might have about his decisions. While the story only provides a snowflake on the tip of an iceberg as a peek at the problem, people need to realize that slavery is alive and well in the U.S. And that's what this is "slavery". You can nuance it in different terms, but it's slavery. According to the U.S.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of Grayson's four to date (2.2.2014) February 2, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
In deciding whether to rely on my reviews, know that my taste in these genres runs to traditional (e.g., Chandler, Hammett), mid-century (e.g., Ross MacDonald, Rex Stout, John D. MacDonald) and modern (e.g., Crais, Thomas Perry, Robert B. Parker, Michael Connelly, Rankin, Robinson, Estleman, etc., etc.). With the marvelous exception of Louise Penny, I abhor "cozys," end of the world thrillers, and all types of formulaic writing.

I've read, and am reviewing, all four of Mr. Grayson' s books. The first part of each review talks generally about his writing as a whole, and is followed by brief observations about the specific novel.

Mr. Grayson is the real deal. All four books are plausible and fast-paced, with coherent plots that compel suspension of disbelief. The characters, both major (Logan, Blair) and minor (the Logan P. I. employees) are believable and dynamic--I.e., they develop over the course of the books, and believably so. The writing is competent and engaging, with none of those solecisms that can destroy the intimacy between book and reader.

Isabel' s Run clears five stars with room to spare. The premise--child prostitution and trafficking--is real, and so important to address. Once again, the characters are first-rate, believable and dynamic. Grayson understands the conflicts faced by the best cops (25 years trying criminal cases give me some authority), and I fear that his picture of FBI bureaucracy and inside-the-box thinking is entirely correct. Finally, Grayson' s ability to develop a plot that is both exciting and credible remains astonishingly good.
