5.0 out of 5 stars Isogoge, by Edward W. Warren, May 19, 2008
Professor Warren's Isagoge is an very readable translation of a philosophically abstract work by the neoplatonist Porphyry. This work, which was later translated into Latin by Boethius and used for a thousand years in medieval schools, is the Introduction to Aristotle's Categories. Professor Warren, by nature "a student's teacher," clearly demonstrates his profound understanding of classical philosophy and the post-Attic Greek language in his translation, but he accomplishes it in a manner that is lucid and not mind-boggling to understand as are so many other translations in this field. Though he may not be a Richmond Lattimore, Professor Warren is certainly in the same camp, and that is no small compliment.
