4.0 out of 5 stars Another contribution from the Old Testament Library, July 30, 2010

Our author comments on Chapters 1 - 12 of the book of the prophet Isaiah. Isaiah is a popular and often read book, both in Hebrew synagogues and Christian churches. Scholars are pretty well agreed on the "Three Isaiah" theory; with chapters 1 - 39 First Isaiah; 40 - 55 Second Isaiah; and 56 - 66 Third Isaiah.

Our author finds a lot of material from the later Isaiahs has found itself into the first twelve chapters.

Like all the Old Testament Library volumns, there is the printed text, notes, and the author's commentary.

A worthy edition to the commentaries on Isaiah.

5.0 out of 5 stars German scholarship for the layperson, August 7, 2007
The first 12 chapters of Isaiah form a natural unit and contain some of the most important material in the book. Here is the account of the prophet's call and his activity in the Syro-Ephraimitic war of 735, together with a number of early oracles. A verse by verse commentary is provided.
Explores what little is known about the prophet as a person -- a citizen with a farm and a father named Amoz (not to be confused with the prophet Amos).
