The commentary series divides Isaiah into two volumes. The same author writes both volumes. Volume two discusses chapters 28-66 and is itself divided into two sections, chapters 28-39 and chapters 40-66, each with its own introduction and outline.
The book has an introduction and outline for each section (Chapters 28-39 & Chapters 40-66). There is a bibliography for further study in volume 1. The commentary text is in the traditional verse by verse format. All comments are based on the NIV text, which is included in the book. The writing is thorough and clearly stated. There are footnotes for further explanation of certain ideas and important Hebrew words are explained in the text. The Hebrew words are shown in the Hebrew alphabet and spelled phonetically for those of us who haven’t studied Hebrew.
There are also some special studies such as: how to approach the servant songs and Isaiah’s interpretation of the servant of the Lord in chapters 42 and 53.
This book will be most valuable to someone who is teaching and is limited in budget and time.
The publisher, College Press, also published the Bible Study Textbook series which is now out of print and can be downloaded for free from the publisher's website in pdf form
