Book Description

Mcgraw-Hill Computer Communications Series April 17, 1998
Remarkable sales for three successive editions have made it the bestselling ISDN book of all time. Now Kessler and Southwick's one-volume resource is bigger and better than ever. The "Signature Edition" covers all the latest developments in broadband communications -- including ADSL, IP switching, and Ipv6 -- while retaining the encyclopedic treatment that has distinguished it as the definitive reference on the subject.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Beyond providing in-depth analysis of many of the fundamental networking concepts and protocols, ISDN: Concepts, Facilities, and Services provides practical information. For instance, in the chapter on Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) applications, the book not only explains applications, but the authors also give 12 real-life examples, from Intel Corporation to USA Today. In the chapter "ATM Signaling Across the UNI," the book highlights how DSS2 messages are used and provides an entire section on how to set them up in different scenarios.

This well-written, well-organized book provides all the information anyone from a naive user to a networking expert needs. --Rob Frankland

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very good for a developer, March 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Isdn: Concepts, Facilities, and Services (Mcgraw-Hill Computer Communications Series) (Paperback)
I found this book to contain a lot of "marketing" as opposed to technical details which i am more interested in. The book is divided into 2 parts: N-ISDN and B-ISDN. I was hoping the book would spend a lot of time laying foundations and giving details about LAPD, Q931 etc... But it covers those fundamental topics very lightly. Yet it spends 3 long chapters on ISDN "marketing" so to speak. For example, it goes into painfull details on different ISDN services and how much they cost etc... etc...

I am dissapointed with this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, October 6, 1999

This book, as with the entire signature series is excellent. The Signature Series should be everyones first and last reference book. They are clear, concise, and to the point. I especially like their ATM Applications and Theory and their TCP/IP books. This ISDN book is another winner

This is an excellent book. It covers much more than I had expected. I use it often in my research for the classes that I teach. It has been an excellent guide.
