Too close to the truth!,
By
This review is from: Ishmael's Son (Paperback)
I thoroughly enjoyed the development of the characters and the plot. The research and understanding of military procedures was right on. The writing is a cross between the fast paced Tom Clancy adventure and the Clive Cussler romantic thrillers. A must read.

Ishmael's son -- a must read,
By Sharon Stiller (Rochester, New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ishmael's Son (Paperback)
For anyone interested in the military, sex, or a plain good story, Ishmael's son is a must read. It is particularly significant in view of current events, but it will also stand the test of time. Easy to read, this novel is a cross between a Clancy pot-boiler and a Danielle Steele romance novel. The characters and events seem real, and I found it easy to relate to them. Some of the scenes are spectacular. It would make a great movie but for now, it also makes a great book.

As current as the headlines--as suspenseful as Clancy!,
By "balanca" (Virginia Beach, VA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ishmael's Son (Paperback)
This book is a fast-paced "page-turner." Every time I thought I'd take a break at the end of a chapter, I had to read the first few pages of the next chapter . . . and so on until I finished the book in two sessions. For those who love Clancy, but don't want to spend a month on a book, Blish is the author for you! Well-written, suspenseful, and with a surprising twist at the end, this book will leave you hoping Blish has another one going to print soon.

Blish Banishes Boredom!,
This review is from: Ishmael's Son (Paperback)
Sucks you right in. You can see it clear as if it were on the big screen -- which it will be if Gollywood is still up for the terrorist twist now that Uncle's saved the world from WMD. Blish knows human nature and the establishment -- the good, the bad and the ugly. You could learn something here. Characters are animated in tense, clever moves with keen sensitivity and 3-D clarity as the stakes ratchet upward. Clancy with feeling.

Great First Novel,

This review is from: Ishmael's Son (Paperback)
This is a welcome first novel from a writer who provides very insightful descriptions of events and experiences. For example a chapter on hang gliding is masterfully written and you feel your riding upon the back of the guy.Other chapters are individual gems of writing about love, family relationships and Pentagon types. The book is mainly about terrorism and heroic efforts to counter same. The finale is unique and unexpected. All in all a great summer read.

Fast, Fabulous, First novel!,

This review is from: Ishmael's Son (Paperback)
Tom Clancey move over! Nelson Blish's first novel has all the ingredients for a perfect read: clearly defined characters who are people you want to know, plot twists that amaze and delight, laughter/drama, and an ending that left me sitting at the register in hopes of a second novel from this brilliant author. The details were obviously well researched and added to the all too realistic "ripped from the headlines" feel of this fast paced and cleverly written piece. WELL DONE!
