More than merely a chronicle of events of the Muslim world, it is a book which provides insights into the causes of victories and defeats of dynasties, as well as successes and failures of movements in Islamic history. Here is a work that sets all this history within the bigger picture, reminding us of other stalwarts who likewise made remarkable contributions in this field - Ibn Khaldun and Toynbee.
