Book Description

January 8, 1996
"Islam and Human Ideology" is intended to fill a significant gap in the literature on Islam in the West. Even though there is a great deal of literature on Islam in the West, the great majority of such literature deals with such topics as the various rituals of Islam (prayers, fasting, pilgrimmage etc), the Prophet's bibliography, and history of the religion in general. What is important about this book is that it presents a detailed analysis of Islamic law as it pertains to a host of issues which touch upon a Muslim's daily life. From such issues as the explanation of the term "Nizam" (system) to such issues as the economic system and development, social relations, ownership, education, insurance, monetary and corporate systems, banking, markets and foreign trade policy, government, the army, land, trade, and labour, to mention only a few of the large number of topics which the book presents. In dealing with each one of these issues, the book presents details of the rulings of Islamic law which govern such issues. Such details are consistently supported by citations and evidence from the Holy Qur'an and the Hadith (the sayings and teaching of the Prophet Muhammad). The significance of the book lies not only in presenting the various rulings of Islamic law as they pertain to a large number of significant issues, but in the fact that the book presents an interesting and persuasive analysis of the Islamic ideology, vis-a-vis, both the communist and capitaslist ideologies. This book should be important for those seeking understanding of the Islamic faith but who are interested in proceeding beyond the introductory textbooks on Islam to a text which deals with the more complex issues of Islamic law and jurisprudence.
