Comprising 17 articles on various aspects of Islamic studies, this volume spans Islam from the medieval Middle East to Islam in Southeast Asia. The book was compiled to celebrate the work of Professor A.H. Johns. The first section of the text contains nine papers which deal with Islam as a scriptual religion, concerned to revere and interpret the Qur'an and promote the spread and doctrinal purity of Islam. Part two of the volume contains eight articles that explore Islam in Southeast Asia, especially Javanese Islam and modern articulations of Islam.
