It is unfortunate that this book is out of print. I was lucky to find a good used copy of it. Islamic Science and Engineering covers the advances made in mathematics, astronomy, physics, chemistry (including alchemy), machinery, fine technology, bridges and dams, irrigation and water supply, surveying and mining. The book is framed by a discussion of the translation of Greek texts into Arabic and the transmission of Arabic texts into Latin Europe.

Studying and understanding the detailed and advanced work done by medieval scholars in the Islamic world is not impossible without this book, but is made much easier by using it.
