About the Author

Samer Shehata is an Assistant Professor of Arab Politics at the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies at Georgetown University. He is the author of Shop Floor Culture and Politics in Egypt.


More About the Author

Samer S. Shehata is an Associate Professor of Middle East studies and Middle East Studies Program Coordinator in the Department of International and Area Studies at the University of Oklahoma. He was born in Alexandria, Egypt and studied in the UK and the US. In order to complete his first book ("Shop Floor Culture and Politics in Egypt"), Shehata worked as a "winding machine operator" for over ten months in two Egyptian textile factories. He has written numerous academic and policy articles on a range of subjects including domestic Egyptian politics, the Muslim Brotherhood, and US foreign policy toward the Middle East. He received a BA from the University of California at Berkeley, an MPhil from the University of Cambridge, and a PhD in Politics from Princeton University.

This is a great collection of short pieces on Islamist movements and political parties. The variety of areas and parties covered provide an ample survey in an accessible volume.
