Our beautiful new, meticulously crafted cutting boards are made from bamboo, one of the world's most beautiful and renewable resources. Bamboo is actually a naturally occurring grass and some varieties can grow one foot in a day. It is 16% harder than Maple, so it provides a perfect cutting surface. Bamboo holds the promise of a sustainable, cost effective and ecologically responsible alternative to the widespread clear cutting of our world's precious timberland. All of our cutting boards are pressed with a food-grade (edible) glue. The Professional Executive Chef board comes in a unique honey-striped finish using natural and honey tone bamboo glued together with food grade glue.

We love bamboo cutting boards and we have found them, as a rule, to be superior to other woods. This board, despite the lovely striping of light and dark woods, came with multiple splits in the surface, at the joins of the 2 colors, and also in the blood groove. Visual inspection suggested poor workmanship and we will not re-order from this vendor.

i would realy like the answer for this question from both of the earlier writers. did you use food safe mineral oil on it every day for a week before useing the board for the first time? many companyes recomend this as the bamboo boards do NOT absorb moister like a regular wood board and as a result are suseptable to cracking from moister loss. so i ask DID YOU OIL IT?

I was given an Island Bamboo cutting board for a wedding present. It lasted less than a month before 4 separate splits appeared. The splits were both with and against the grain.

Beautiful but not useful.
