John Galt's kids would read this,
By
This review is from: An Island Called Liberty (Hardcover)
As someone who grew up with Dr. Seuss and grew wise with Ayn Rand (and many others), I can say that this is a great book to read with your own young children so that they understand the libertarian point of view.
Plus, its fun to read your progressive friends and watch them self-destruct trying to deflect the obvious results of their failed attempts to control and manipulate the lives of free men. :) This is a fun book to get kids to ask questions. They are not going to get it the first time, and for all I know they'll come away with a different opinion. But they will understand this point of view a bit better, thanks to this fun book. Cultural conservatives might want to beware, the book hints (somewhat) that regulation of marriage is part of the problem... this book represents a libertarian view, not necessarily a conservative view. Lastly, let's accept the fact - it is "parenting" to teach your children your own views and morals; it is "indoctrination" when the *state* teaches your children *their* views. Those who don't understand this are either not parents themselves, or probably fairly bad ones. If you don't like the book or respect the libertarian view, you can do so as free man yourself. But please, save your sanctimonious lecture on parenting for the community raised welfare rats who find value in it.

A call to arms for our children,
By
This review is from: An Island Called Liberty (Hardcover)
I read this book with my 10 and 8 year old. They enjoyed the pictures, but were a little lost on the concept of overtaxation and its economic impact. On the other hand, I found it thought provoking and visionary in it's extrapolation of our current taxation trends. I think it's a "must read" if our children are to maintain and enjoy the economic freedoms we've taken for granted, and to reverse the slow but certain overtaxation we are all experiencing.

Atlas Shrugged for Kids,
This review is from: An Island Called Liberty (Hardcover)
It is unfortunate that we live in a world that this "ironically unique perspective" must be shared in the form of a children's book, but with the abundance of liberal propoganda masquerading as children's books these days, this book serves as an antidote.
Not wanting to spoil the story...the book follows the natural sequence of small government becoming larger. As the "well-intentioned" government grows, freedoms and incentives decline until there is no reason to continue. Fortunately, because the human spirit is great, the book doesn't end there. If you love "liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" then you owe it to our society to share this book with as many children as you can. I'm afraid to think what our world will be like if our future leaders are only exposed to books like "The Rainbow Fish" as children. The illustrations are colorful and full of activity, but the beauty of this book is in the principle that it conveys. There is one subtle message that I could have done without (I'm conservative, not libertarian), but otherwise this book is a diamond found amongst the coal of other children's books.

Don't think it's meant to be just a children's book,
By Ima Wundermann "IW" (Florida) - See all my reviews

Interesting book. Agree with the Editorial Review that the book is good on one level for younger kids (great book to play "I Spy" with, but leave the bedside tutorials on the message out) while having a position, albeit biased, for the older set to enjoy. I tend to agree with the views presented, but feel that the government is but a component to what ails us today. Thought the rhyming sequence was excellent, Dr. Suess on really strong coffee. Good quality, hardcover, not cheap paper, should last. Bought it on a whim, not sorry I did.

A neat book for children over 6. Beautifully illustrated. Makes a child think and react on his/her own. Teaches children to be individuals.

Vaccine against cancer of socialism,
This review is from: An Island Called Liberty (Hardcover)
Finally there is a good start to save the minds of our children from collectivist monsters who have been dominating children's literature and openly preaching bolshevism from preschool all the way through the University. Hopefully this antidote will safeguard and strengthen that little rational and logical which is still alive in our kids, and they will not be so easily fooled into slavery where socialistic Europe is so quickly going to. I would love to get more similar books for my daughter.

Ayn Rand Would be Proud,
By Kent Louis (Houston, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: An Island Called Liberty (Hardcover)
There are two kinds of people in the world. Those who wish to control others, and those who prefer to live and let live. In keeping with the spirit of Atlas Shrugged, this little gem of a book, shows both children and adults the difference between the two. For those of you who collect first editions, it is a rare find, and destined to be a classic. The illustrations perfectly compliment the wit and wisdom of the prose, ultimately making it clear to the reader that when legislators propose to micro-manage our lives, with over-regulation and taxation, the best and brightest among us will revolt. There is a goodness to this book that one rarely sees in various art forms today.

It's a little preachy, but it's still a fun way to get the ideas across. If you already agree with the whole premise of the book you'll enjoy the presentation. If you don't I don't believe it'll persuade you or change your mind.

Teaches Our Children About Evils Of Excessive Taxation!,
By Dan C "Stumbleman" (Georgia USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: An Island Called Liberty (Hardcover)
Beautifully illustrated book teaches our children how government taxation run amok can destroy our life and liberty. These are important lessons for our children! My 8 year old was excited to read it and enjoyed the pictures. It made me feel good as a Dad to know that my child picks up the message that unchecked taxation could lead to problems in the future.
