5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely Worth Buying!!!!
Having recieved the 4 Island Girl workout videos (tahitian cardio, tahitian hip hop, hula cardio & hula abs and buns) just over a month ago, I have no hesitation in recomending these to anyone, who enjoys dance, as a form of getting fit. 2.0 out of 5 stars Not Very Good.
My daughter has been taking Polynesian dance lessons for the past six years. I was looking for a fun exercise video that I could also learn to Hula. The quality of production for this video was excellent, but the actual "dance" was not fun or what you would expect of a "hula" dance. The music was like a very boring, slow version of tahitian drumming...

Having recieved the 4 Island Girl workout videos (tahitian cardio, tahitian hip hop, hula cardio & hula abs and buns) just over a month ago, I have no hesitation in recomending these to anyone, who enjoys dance, as a form of getting fit. If you have purchsed the "Hula for weight loss", and "hula for beginners", earlier last year, also done by the same instructor "kili", please do not let those, put you off purchasing these (all 4). The Tahitian Dance and Hula Dance forms have a subtle, but noticeable difference... The Tahitian Dance form is a little faster, therefore it builds up a sweat a little quicker. These videos have great instruction, get you in shape, and are fun to do. I've searched extensively, and there are very few Hula Instructional tapes available on the mainstream market, and the bonus of these 4 (available to purchase seperately) being as good as they are, makes them well worth buying. I would recomend you buy all 4 in this "Island Girl workout series", as you won't be disappointed. P.S: to all of you out there who enjoy bellydancing, just as I do, as some of the moves are similar, I feel you would enjoy these also.

5.0 out of 5 stars See it, feel it and do it!, August 14, 2004

Kili continues to be mesmerizing with more hip action dancing, that's Tahitian style. When previewing the video, one already is enticed to move because of the wonderful native music, the gorgeous location and her 2 assistants! Tahitian style is faster than the hula dancing, so this is a good workout. Kili teaches you the names of each dance movement, breaks it down and at the end you get to perform the whole dance! Fun, fun, fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars a wonderful hip workout! great for bellydancers!, November 3, 2005
this tape is great. it was my first introduction to Kili and her fitness programs. she's a wonderful teacher. the workout itself is concentrated on moving the hips and doing some squats. if you practice this tape regularly you will find that your hip movements become very fluid and that you start to develop some serious muscles in the abs, glutes and quads. some of the moves can be a bit tricky, such as 3 steps to the left & right while doing figure 8's and moving arms across & overhead simultaneously. just keep doing it! the music is great, the scenery is beautiful & the dancers are inspiring. highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Start to the Hula, April 7, 2007
I was weary about getting the Cardio Hula workout after reading the previous review, so I got it at the library to try it out...and what a pleasant surprise! The workout is everything the other reviewer said it wasn't! Fun (yes!), music (yes it was a little slow, but it was lovely and fits this particular hula), graceful (definitely!), and athletic (it is the cardio hula after all). Kili is a great instructor and the two other girls are great to watch to help with the moves. The scenery behind them is absolutely gorgeous!

While I thought it was a little advanced for the very beginner (like me), that is easy to remedy. I thought it should have a few mini-workouts with a small grouping of the moves, until you can learn them, but it is easy to stop it and then continue it on the next day. I am enjoying learning the moves and plan on buying this workout and checking out others by Kili.

While this might not be a 'traditional' hula, it is a great start to learning the hula. I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars *GOOD FOR JUST ABOUT ANYONE, February 23, 2006
i'M NOT IN THE BEST SHAPE AFTER RECENTLY HAVING A BABY, AND WORKING TO GET IT BACK TOGETHER IS MORE OF A TASK THAN EVER BEFORE. tHIS IS ONE OF THE FEW WORKOUTS THAT DOESN'T FEEL LIKE A WORKOUT, AND CAN BE DONE BY ANYONE. eVEN THOSE WHO AREN'T ALREADY IN SHAPE. i BOUGHT THIS ON VHS (BY MISTAKE) A WHILE AGO AND TORE IT UP USING IT IN AN OLD TAPE PLAYER. sINCE THEN i'VE PURCHASED ABOUT 9 OR 10 OTHER VIDEOS (FROM DANCE TO POWER 90) BECAUSE i COULDN'T FIND THIS ONE IN THE STORE. i EITHER GOT BORED OR WAY IN OVER MY HEAD WITH ALL OF THE OTHERS. sO NOW i'M GOING BACK TO ISLAND GIRL, BUT THIS TIME i'M GETTING THE DVD, AND TWO DISKS TO MAKE SURE i DON'T GO SO LONG WITHOUT IT AGAIN. tHE ONLY OTHER AT-HOME WORKOUT i SUGGEST WOULD BE PILATES (UNLESS YOU DON'T LIKE ROLLING AROUND ON THE FLOOR).

5.0 out of 5 stars Getting fit Tahitian Style!, June 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Island Girl Dance Fitness Workout for Beginners: Tahitian Hip Hop [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I checked out a VHS cassette of Cardio Hula (another exercise video by Kili) from the local library and fell in love with the very essence of getting in shape via such sensual exercising! Working out can be a chore as we all know but I wake up and look forward to getting in the groove of moving to the beats of Tahitian Hip Hop. It is absolutely wonderful! Don't think for one minute that you won't work up a sweat or that it is pretty easy because it moves at a much slower pace that the typical cardio workouts. If you think that, you're in for a surprise. The moves are very concentrated, meaning the work is penetrating deep within the target areas being worked during that particular segment therefore, you don't have to kill yourself doing a thousand reps a minute. Every time I do the workout, I SWEAT. Not only are you getting a great workout, you are learning some pretty sexy moves in the process. You will fall in love with the Tahitian moves, begin to feel and look sexier, and your man will want to get involved as well! (~_~)

This workout is great for any age, especially those that may be limited in range of movement. It doesn't push you to complete moves that are visibly unattainable. Do what you can at your own pace and watch your physique and general appearance improve as well as your psychological disposition. No time to waste! It's so much fun> Buy it and get to shaking those hips already!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice change of pace, June 26, 2007

Easy to follow instructions, although it's hard to tell if you have the mechanics right unless you're in front of a mirror. The instructor is easy to understand, but it's obvious that it will take years of practice and probably every video in the series to be as gracful as Kili and the other girls.....watching them, you realize just how much muscle control this takes. I did start feeling a lot more fluid after a few tries. Not really a sweatfest, but a good break from more strenuous workouts.

Hula Mom (Tustin, CA United States) - See all my reviews
My daughter has been taking Polynesian dance lessons for the past six years. I was looking for a fun exercise video that I could also learn to Hula. The quality of production for this video was excellent, but the actual "dance" was not fun or what you would expect of a "hula" dance. The music was like a very boring, slow version of tahitian drumming and the moves were more athletic (not graceful). If you are looking to learn a more traditional hula along with listening to beautiful traditional hawaiian music, this video is NOT for you...or anyone else I know. In my opinion, as a veteran "Hula Mom", this was a total waste of money. I should have done a little more homework checking out this teacher, but I had only relied on the previous review that I read from Amazon.com. This video was a big disappointment.
