The Agony of Deceit,
This review is from: Island of Deceit (Mass Market Paperback)
Barbara Turner is on a mission. She has followed a group of hustlers to Paradise Island. They stole money from her grandmother, and she is convinced they had something to do with her death. Barbara is determined to help the other elderly people that this group has swindled. However, there is one obstacle that stands in her way: Sheriff Harper Porterfield. Since Barbara has come to the island, Harper has been in hot pursuit of her. He is a mature divorcee that is ready to settle down. Barbara is very attracted to Harper, but she is afraid that he may not approve of her plan to get the money back. In this case, chemistry prevails and the two become an item. When a series of misfortunate events occur on the island and to Barbara, Harper realizes that Barbara is hiding something.
Island of Deceit is a good read by Candice Poarch. The plot is very mysterious and suspenseful. Poarch does a good job of introducing new characters and giving updates on the characters that were introduced in the previous Golden Bowl stories. There are some times when the plot lags due to the details that are given. However, Poarch compensates for this by giving such an intriguing ending. Reviewed by Tenecia for Urban Reviews

"ISLAND OF DECEIT" was a page turner. Since it's the 3rd book in the series, you'll get the info about the Golden Bowl; ancestry; small town business but Barbara and Harper's relationship will keep you wanting more... They both have past baggage but given an opportunity, they take a chance. Even the first page sets the tone about how this romance will evolve. Thanks for the journey. Looking forward to #4 and I hope The Claxton sisters find some happiness too!!!

I loved this latest book from the series 'Quest for the Golden Bowl'. I could not put this book down until I finished because it was so action packed. If you have been following the series, you won't be disappointed with this latest installment. I was so tired from trying to help the main character Barbara Turner. (lol) Now I am anxious for the next book in this series. Kudos's to you Candice for another great book in this action packed series.

In the latest addition to the Quest for the Golden Bowl series, we travel with
Barbara Turner to Paradise Island, the home of her deceased grandmother, Dorsey. It was always Dorsey's plan to return to her homeland but those plans quickly changed when she was swindled out of most of her life savings then found dead in her home. The police called Dorsey's death an accident but Barbara knows it was murder and she's determined to avenge her death. The swindlers, Elliot Stone and his wife Minerva, move on to their next victim who just so happens to live on Paradise Island. Once Barbara finds this out, she knows her next move is a trip to the island. Little does she know, she isn't the only one there because of the Stones. Paradise Island is a small quiet place with Harper as the most eligible bachelor and sheriff. He enjoys the peace and quiet of the island and he also enjoys spending time with Barbara. As their relationship blossoms on many different levels, he can't get rid of the feeling that she's holding something back. When various crimes, mostly involving the Stones, start plaguing the quiet island, he wonders if Barbara is involved. Will she tell him the reason she's there? ISLAND OF DECEIT was an enjoyable yet confusing book for me. I didn't know this was part of a series, so the extra characters that popped up puzzled me a number of times. Once I focused on the main story, I enjoyed the storyline which revolved around doing what it takes for family and giving love a chance. I also enjoyed the suspense because it kept me on my toes from the beginning. Reviewed by Tawana Price of The RAWSISTAZ(tm) Reviewers |
