I absolutely loved this book. It was well written and very funny at times, but was packed full of great information about Istanbul, and more specifically the Princes' Islands. I've been to Heybeliada, and this book makes me excited to get back there again. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in Turkey.

This book was listed in National Geographic's Places of a Lifetime and truely does give a feel for the myriad of people, situations and beauty of Istanbul. Mary Ann Whitten's wonderful sense of humor shines through and having been to Istanbul several times in the past one and one-half years, I can recommend it as informative and enjoyable reading if you are traveling there or have already experienced Istanbul's "spices".

Well paced and well written account of setting up a household in a new country. Humor shines through while giving a good picture of life in Istanbul. Good job, MAM.
