Book Description

Vor: The Maelstrom April 1, 2000
Torn from the universe by an insatiable cosmic vortex, Earth is trapped in the grotesque parody of reality called the Maelstrom -- along with thousands of other planets, millions of species, billions of warring creatures...all swirling toward ultimate destruction.

ALIEN HORROR

It materializes off the Oregon coast in a burst of devastation and tsunamis: an island containing an alien city ... and perhaps the way for Earth to escape the Maelstrom. But the Union soldiers and civilian scientists sent to the strange ruins aren't the only ones who want the island's power. For the humans are soon confronted by unearthly monsters -- the walking-dead Pharons and morphing Sand. And these horrors intend to claim victims on their unholy journey through the Maelstrom, even as the entire island itself begins to disappear.

2.0 out of 5 stars VOR: Island of Power, December 24, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Island of Power (Vor: The Maelstrom) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was so-so at best.

Most of the novels failed to stick to the VOR setting they were portrayed in. This novel accomplished that which makes it better than every other VOR novel than the Playback War in my opinion. Though it gave good depictions of a setting in the Vor: The Maelstrom it lacked a compelling plot. This novel isn't a mystery, not a romance, no great tales of heroism, camaraderie, or anything else. The whole story is summed up in a group of people race against undead aliens to the center of a mysterious island then race off before it vanishes, The End.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book, July 9, 2001

A great book. I personally am not into the series of these books but I thought this was excellent. It's about this alien island that appears off the coast of Oregon. Sent to investigate is a team of scientists and a platoon of soldiers. But when they get there they find an abandoned alien city and the walking dead that are trying to kill these soldiers. An excellent book, one of the only ones I ever wanted to read again.
