Book Description

5/5 Stars. I spent all day reading this book and didn’t get bored once! It is full of adventure and gets crazy at the end!" —Bauman Book Reviews

"The story moves fast and is filled with amazing backdrops, unforgettable characters and a story you want to continue even after the last page. I am certain there will be a sequel (I am hoping). This is one is well worth reading!"—DZS Reviews

One journey can change everything—for you and everyone else.

Ben Brewer has lived all his life on the Island. But things are getting unbearable. There’s hardly any food and there’s nothing to do. Plus, the adults are so scared they won’t let anyone leave.

Thirteen years ago, the Mainland was torn apart by war and contaminated by biological weapons. Ben’s parents were leaders of the Resistance. They moved all their friends and comrades to the safety of the Island. But then his dad went back to fight, never to return.

Ben was born a few months later. He has never met his dad.

When a message arrives saying that his dad is still alive, Ben decides to go to the Mainland. He needs to know the truth about the War. If his dad is still alive, why did he never come back?

With him go Bad n’ Worse, the toughest two kids on the island; Silver, the smartest girl; plus her brother Coby, Ben’s best friend. When they get to the Mainland they find a world gone mad, a chaos of weird genetic mutations, and a life of slavery for those who didn’t escape.

Ben discovers that one man yields total power: Jack Sullivan, his dad’s oldest and bitterest enemy. If Ben is ever going to uncover the truth about the War and find his dad, he’ll have to risk everything and put himself at the mercy of Sullivan. And that’s just the start of it...

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern Day Lord of The Flies -- But a whole lot better! November 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This novel reminded me of a modern day Lord of the Flies. Not with the plot, just with the concept of the children being the main characters. I'm sure there are many novels like this, but I feel like this could replace that book in school curriculums.
It does have lessons that you can take away from it, such as you need teamwork to succeed, and also to never give up.
This novel is a sort of spin on a post-apocalyptic. There was a major war on the mainland including biological warfare. Some of the survivors were able to escape to an island unknown to the ruler of the mainland.
When a boat washes up on shore of the island carrying a messenger from the mainland telling Ben Brewer that his father is still alive, he and a gang of children set off to uncover the true story of what happened.
Will they be able to find Ben's dad? Or will they get killed along the way?
You just have to read it and find out!
5/5 Stars. I spent all day reading this book and didn't get bored once! It is full of adventure and get crazy at the end!

3.0 out of 5 stars fast read August 22, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is a fast read, at least it was for me. I would put this book more in the category of young adult novel then adults. This book begins on an island where twin teen boys(Bad and Worse)are beating up on another and some what seeming smaller boy(Ben). In flight to get away from the brothers they come across a red paddle boat. Boats are something not normally seen on the island. This boy has come from the mainland to deliver a message from John Brewster which happens to be Ben's father that everyone thinks is died. It was said that he died trying to save people form the ravages from the war that happened on the mainland. The boys who have been bored with the life on the island decided to take this boat back to the mainland and save Ben's dad. Along the way this trio because a small group of 4 boys and one of the boys younger sister Silver. She is the brains behind the group while Ben gets thrown into the lead of the group and of course you guess by the names bad and worse become the thugs of the group or if you will the muscle of the group. The make it to the mainland after losing paddles to their boat to giant sea snakes. When they reach the mainland they run into many mutations some of them are beneficial such as huge fruit and veggies that this lot hasn't seen in awhile living on the island. Some of the not so good things are the silver dollar giant piranhas that eat the boat and only way back to the island. They find some wacky new friends that also want to help find John Brewer and save the people from the complex and take down the power hungry Jack Sullivan.

Really not a bad novel but think I would have liked a little more depth of the people of the book.

4.0 out of 5 stars ISLANDERS GO MAINLAND August 16, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A very entertaining spin on a post-apocalyptic event. The book was probably written for teens, but can be enjoyed by all ages. It was very creative and enjoyable. Would recommend the book, and would be interested in a sequel to find out the conclusion.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK Book May 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book was not what I expected after reading the Description. The plot has nothing or very little touch with reality. The main characters are teenagers leaving a small group of war survivors on an island barely off the mainland. One is seeking his father while the others are seeking adventure.

The group successfully reaches the mainland and then encounters all sorts of strange humans and creatures. At this point there is no longer a touch with reality. I finished the book but would only recommend it to readers who are attracted to books almost completely about a fantasy tale.

Although this book may be more suitable for teens, as an adult iwas curious about how it was going to end. it is exciting and got me going, but i was not too thrilled about all those mutations of people and animals. i thought it was to silly. any way the story it self was adventerous, thrilling and worth reading
