Great set of 4 new songs from Tenth Avenue North. The EP is bold musically ("No Man is an Island" has calypso themes, "For Those Who Can't Speak" begins as a rap song, and "Just Getting By" has echoes of video game music) as well as lyrically ("For Those Who Can't Speak" deals with modern-day slavery). "Forgive Me" was the most personally edifying song for me.

The best thing about Tenth Avenue North is their poignant, bold, and honest songwriting. However, the band oftentimes is lacking in musical creativity. "Islands" is the breakthrough I've been hoping for, finding common ground between their signature lyrics and creative music.

Each of these songs has a unique sound, yet they are all unified around a theme of isolation vs. community. Mike Donehey, the lead singer, wrote on the band's website about their new album: "We were made to commune with God and with one another. So, if you're living like an island, come back to the mainland!"

The band takes liberty to experiment with their sound throughout this four song EP, particularly on "For Those Who Can't Speak" and "Just Getting By." "For Those Who Can't Speak," is a mid-tempo pop/rock song that features rapped verses from KB and Derek Minor (reminiscent of their song "Lead Me Higher" featuring Lecrae). The song provides a voice for the 27 million people who live in modern day slavery. Donehey sings in the chorus: "I have dreamed of a kingdom coming where / Evil drowns in mercy's streams / I want to see those rivers of justice / So I use my voice for those who can't speak." The song "Just Getting By" boasts a plethora of pop sounds. There are elements of synthpop, dance-pop, and acoustic pop that are all tied together with an infectiously catchy melody. In the song, Donehey sings about his desire to break free from an apathetic life.

"No Man Is An Island" is an upbeat pop/rock song with a driving drum beat, light synth, and groovy bass. The song will keep your foot tapping as Doherty sings about loneliness and isolation and the need for community.

Tenth Avenue North are a blessing... Every track they've ever written has a way of speaking to the listener. They've done it again, even in just a four track EP.

Just another example of Holy Spirit inspired music by these guys! Tenth Avenue North never fails to both challenge and encourage it's listeners.

Awesome! More smart and moving music from 10th Ave. North. Great rifts, creative arrangements and talented vocals. Best band performing today.
