Les Paul is a musician who is known more for his technilogical achievements than his performance chops as a player. This shows you just how good he was as a player, arranger and performer as WELL as electronic manipulator! A master is of personal pop music is an understatement, considering the time when Les most actively recorded. When you hear this, you think "This guy created the Les Paul Guitar?" Well, he did and a million other technologies that radicalized the music industry. And he is a 'cream of the crop' musician too. Don't miss this set!
This 4 CD set is fantastic. The highlights for me are the musical performances backing Bing Crosby. I have never heard Bing sound more adept and interesting than standards like White Christmas in compared to the singles he did with Les Paul- all on this box set. Also, on one side of a disc, there is Les doing some of the first tape loop experiments ever done.
The other thing I discovered is just how good Mary Ford was as well as well as many others contained on this box set. There are many recordings here that were only available on the old 78's until this was released.
Excellent spin!
