The beginnings of a promising book...., January 20, 1998
This review is from: Isshinryu Karate-Do (Textbook Binding)
Mr. Evseeff & Mr. Murphy are two practitioners of an art known as Isshinryu the "One Heart Method" of Karate. This book encompasses far more material than any other single book written in English on the subject previously (Sadly however, that is not too difficult an accomplishment !). The authors present an enormous amount of material covering a very broad spectrum: history, technique, philosophy, historical figures, and politics to name but a few. Important elements of this, or any discipline. But in an eagerness to present so much material, tragically it was covered without much serious depth. If one needed ONE book on this subject of Isshinryu, perhaps THIS one could fit your "need" . However the author(s) in the afterward section of the book (theorizing the views of the arts founder, concerning the evolution of Isshinryu today) aptly described their own work, "...too much Yak, Yak...". Donn Draeger these folks are not YET, however maybe with time... there could well be hope. Better than everything out there, still a VERY long way to go...

A must have for any Isshinryu Karateka, August 6, 1999

The fruit of David's efforts is readily apparent. He has done a wonderful job in trying to objectively portray events and people in Isshinryu and Isshinryu history. The book is very concise and thoughtfully written. I tip my hat. The book is a must have!
