Biography

Korn embrace the future on The Path of Totality, their tenth full-length studio album and second for Roadrunner Records.
Infusing dubstep anarchy into their signature sound, the legendary quartet stand on the cusp of a musical revolution for both hard rock and electronica. Korn are no strangers to revolution or innovation though. In fact, they've been purveyors of heavy music's progression since… Read more in Amazon's Korn Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Forget Punk Rock, November 6, 2005
This review is from: Issues (Audio CD)
This is probably the only rock review I will ever do, but I had to because this album is great. I'm a rap addict but when I wanna box somebody, or I'm just in a bad mood, this album gets me right. "Make Me Bad" and "Trash" are definitely the best songs on the album, and always help me get through a shi*ty day. Some will think that the tracks all sound the same, but if you listen carefully, you will notice how hard Korn worked to make each song a unique blend of metal, and alternative mastery. You can literally press play and just listen to disc one the whole way through (if you have the limited edition; if you don't just stick this CD in and press play). I recommend this album for just about any rock fan who doesn't like that older rock, but hates punk as much as I do. Also good for anyone that just keeps having bad days, weeks, months, or a bad life in general. Cop this disc! (That means buy it, DUDE.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Just get the original one...., May 8, 2006
This review is from: Issues (Audio CD)
All right, first off; buy this album, listen to it, then listen to Linkin Park, Staind,or any of the other posers out there and tell me what you think of this album. Thats the funny thing about Korn, they get bad ratings from devoted Korn fans because they liked the sound of another album by them and wished they did it again. Yet if you do what I say, you will appreciate them that much more. If Korn never changed their sound, guys, then alot of you wouldn't have gotten Follow the Leader, or the underrated Untouchables, so lets try to keep the ratings in perspective here, guys. I am giving this album 4 stars instead of the 5 it deserves out of respect for Korn self titled. That album is a out-of-the-park masterpiece, and to give any other album by Korn a 5-star rating will diminish that. See where I'm going?
Okay, to the album in question: Issues

This is their second-best album they have come out with in my opinion, (thats opinion, not fact, there are lots of Follow the Leader fans out there) but this is their most consistant, pleasing entry since Korn self-titled. There is hardly a weak track on here, and yes, I am counting the "fillers". That is a controversy on this album, I can see that from reading reviews. Okay, this album was made to be listened to in one sitting, and they add to the pace and feel of the album nicely. I also think that is why they didn't put a bonus track in there, because it would have changed the feel of the album. This isn't a concept album, really, sort of a semi-concept album. Also, if you listen to Life is Peachy, or other Korn albums, notice the backround noise in there occasionally? For example, in Good God in Life is Peachy, right at the end, you can hear the band members laughing. It happens a few times in various albums (not just Korn). I think this was done on purpose, to add to the whole feel of the album, and makes the whole listening experience that much more enjoyable. When I first bought this album (off Amazon by the way, mint condition, really cheap price) I went to my room, turned off the lights, closed my eyes, and listened to the album all the way through. Guys, if you buy this album, do yourselves a favor and do that, dont listen to the singles first, or even skip past a song because its boring. Instead, just let the music flow over you, and appreciate how the songs bleed into one another and create one great listening experience. Okay, that may sound a little over-the-top, this isn't a masterpiece or anything, all im saying is appreciate the sound that Korn obviously worked hard to achieve. Also, I know iv covered the fillers in full, but this was by no means a rush-job. I know that this album came out only a year after Follow the Leader, but this is way more mature and way more serious. The fillers are there for a reason, and to be honest, I would rather have them there than have only 11 or 12 songs on there, wouldn't you. Finally, I believe that this is Korn's second-best album because it is also their least mainstream, which is a nice break after Follow the Leader.

1 Dead: 10/10 Korn really has great taste when it comes to opening and closing albums. This is NOT a filler, instead its a quiet, despairing opening, and really lets you know whats in store for the rest of the album.

2 Falling Away From Me: 8/10 Ahh, the first single of the album. I have to say I am only giving this song an 8 because of the catchy guitars on it. For one I dont really like the song overly, but if this makes any sense, its the perfect song to come after Dead.

3 Trash: 8/10 Seems to be a fan favorite. Again not terrific (which is why Korn self titled gets a 5, almost every song on it is terrific) but more than good. It is very catchy, and you will probably be skipping to it over and over (after you have listened to the whole album at once I hope)

4 4U: 7/10 To tell the truth I dont like this song very much, but again it contributes to the flow of the album. Obviously its for all the Kornheads out there, a message to their fanbase.

5 Beg for Me: 8/10 This song takes awhile to get into, but its a really good song once you understand what hes saying. As you have probably heard, its about preforming onstage. I think it has to do with a fear of failing onstage, not getting any support from the audience. "your the crowd, give it back to me, you wont beg for me, beg for me".

6 Make me Bad: 10/10 Arguably the best song on the album (for me it competes with Lets Get this Party Started) and probably competes for one of the most catchy chorous's they have ever come out with. Like Trash, it tells the story of Jonathan's obsession with having sex. Sidenote: Obsession with sex is a recurring theme in all of Korn's albums, most recently on almost every song on See You On The Other Side, but this album covers it much more seriously and tastefully than See You On The Other Side.

7 Its Gonna Go Away: 6/10 For almost any other filler by Korn or any other band, I would just give it a 1 or 2, but this album is special. However, this is the worst song on the album. I think they are there to slow it down a little more, but you dont have to worry about dozing off or anything, because right after that is a very rude awakening :)...

8 Wake Up: 9/10 Ironic, huh? Anyways, if you have read any of the other reviews, you will know that this song is about feuding amongst band members. It is indeed a very rude awakening, because Korn, or more specifically, Head and Munky, start off the song with the guitars already roaring. This is a rarity on any song, because even though Head and Munky sometimes start off a song with a hard opening riff, it feels like you have gotten in the middle of a song(I thought at first that my cd player was skipping). But everything about this song is great, and I especially love the brief guitar riff before Jon comes in with the chorous.

9 Am I Going Crazy?: 6/10 Sounds alot like Its Gonna Go Away, but thats okay. I think they were trying to slow our blood pressure after the adreniline rush of Wake Up, and I dont mind one bit. (weird I felt like they were stringing me along the entire way). Not a noteworthy song, but its one you can appreciate if you are listening to the whole thing at once. After you do that, you will most likely skip it, however.

10 Hey Daddy: 7/10 Weird opening to the song, and a weird song altogether. I personally dont like it too much, but the chorous is pretty good. I can't make up my mind if this is about abuse or substance abuse. ex"i do not live without them" that would make me think hes talking about drugs. Dont really have too much to say about this song.

11 Somebody Someone: 8/10 The third single off the album, and I can't for the life of me understand why. The guitars are great, and the chorous is all right, but its no where near as good as Trash or Lets Get This Party Stared. It is, however, a perfect example of what this album is like. Not flashy or in your face, like Take a Look in The Mirror, or hip-hoppy and funny like Follow the Leader, but sick and desperate. Notice there is hardly any screaming or yelling on the entire album.

12 No Way: 8/10 A lot like Somebody Someone. Sick and desperate. Not entirely catchy, but I love it nonetheless. Adds to the feeling of desperation and despair of the album.

13 Lets Get This Party Started: 10/10 Tied for best song on the album. For the first time on the album, Jonathan lets some anger out, at least thats what I think it is. The whole song is sad and lonely, and the Vamp stresses that even more, and when you get to the chorous its unmatched. Great song.

14 Wish You Could Be Me: 7/10 yeah, its technically a "filler", but I actually sometimes skip to this little ditty. It sounds totally insane, literally. However, it actually sounds a little out of place on this album, and even though I enjoy it, it is just a little too cheery, but in a (I am totally insane) way.

15 Counting: 7/10 For some reason I dont like this song overly much. It sounds a lot like No Way, but it doesn't have the same charm, if you will call it, as No Way. Sorta Forgettable.

16 Dirty: 9/10 Honestly, it isn't the best closer Korn has ever done(Daddy and Kill You were all slam-dunk closers) but this one fits the album perfectly. This album isn't about hate, or angst, its about alcoholism, drug abuse, and despair. So Dirty closes this album off perfectly, and I know that some people are complaining that there is no hidden track, as I have stated, it fits.

All right, as for the extra tracks, none of them are special and all of them are forgettable, if you are a Korn completist, get it, otherwise, save your money and get the original one

Overall, like I said earlier, this is Korns best effort since Korn self titled. I will even go as far to say that this is Korn's most mature work, being so anti-mainstream. I am begging anyone out there who is a Korn fan to buy this album. You could download various songs, but you wont have the same treat as you will if you listen to the whole album. I know I have rambled quite a bit, and if I have bored you, I apologize, but I had a lot to say about this album, so thanks for reading. Now what are you waiting for? Click on the buy button!
