Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

I thought my work on Part IV complete ten years ago, but publication eluded me. Then correspondence with my old colleague, Aziz Nesin, stopped at his death five years ago. His work was finished, but mine had to continue until now all four parts of this biography of Nesin’s youth are complete..

From the Author

From Istanbul Boy Part I, p225: “I didn’t write these memoirs because they had literary merit. I had two aims in writing them. First, I wanted to present a slice of Turkish society of that particular period, from the framework of my life. From one point of view, these memoirs are a piece of the social topography of the Turkish society in the era in which I was raised. . There are many shared facets, many resemblances, between my life and the lives of those a little younger or a little older than I. Most of them passed through narrow straits resembling these and arrived at Today.

Aziz Nesin is one of the most creative writers worldwive. His works (over 90 books including topselling novels, stories, plays and poems) are published in many languages. If you are somehow interested in turkish way of life in 20's to 90's you should definitely take a look at his books.I'm glad that ý am one of the few lucky people who cold read Aziz Nesin in his own language.
