From the Author
From Istanbul Boy Part I, p225: I didnt write these memoirs because they had literary merit. I had two aims in writing them. First, I wanted to present a slice of Turkish society of that particular period, from the framework of my life. From one point of view, these memoirs are a piece of the social topography of the Turkish society in the era in which I was raised. . There are many shared facets, many resemblances, between my life and the lives of those a little younger or a little older than I. Most of them passed through narrow straits resembling these and arrived at Today.
