Wow! What a mess and a huge mistake by me (and Alexa).
I expected so much more and was left with a feeling that Alexa Chung and her friends need a huge reality check.

I usually love books like this and was expecting something along the lines of 'Rookie Yearbook One' by Tavi Gevinson or 'The Goddess Guide' by Gisele Scanlon - one of my all time favourite books.

I'm 19 and when I heard Alexa was writing a book I thought that's my Christmas list sorted but unfortunately no. If it were even a tiny bit more like The Goddess Guide with drawings and photographs and personal stories I'd have given it another star but unfortunately I've found nothing to date as cool for art, photography and super smart writing.

Also I don't like the "It" title. What does "It" mean?

It seems that "It" is devoid of any reality....

John Crace's 'Digested Read' in The Guardian, reviewed 'It' and summed up exactly how I feel here after 1 hour of frustrated reading...

There's nothing to "It"

I still love Alexa on TV but I'm afraid from now on I'll give her books a miss.

Unfortunately on this occasion she comes across as sycophantic and rather uncool. There's very little to champion here : ( and it's also too expensive.

I hate being so negative but "It" is a huge disappointment. : (

Terribly disappointed. Zero editorial value. As much as I would like to believe Alexa has brains, this book shows little of it.

I really love Alexa's style and everything about her. That's why it's soooo painful for me to say that it was kind of (totally) painful to read. Take all her instagram and facebook pics and posts, print them and charge $25 for it. that's what this book is all about.

As soon as I heard that Alexa Chung was writing a book I jumped on amazon and pre-ordered. I wish her book had more substance. Reading her book was a painful experience. She is an amazing host and has amazing style... Maybe she should stick to what she knows best. The book is aesthetically pleasing. The pictures makeup for the lack of effort that seems to have gone into the writing. After reading this book I felt I wasted my money.

Here is a short list of other ways to use this product:
coaster
stop wobbly tables
game of catch
hollow out pages to hide things inside
use pages for gift warp/tissue paper

ALEXA,
IF YOU EVER DECIDE TO WRITE ANOTHER BOOK PLEASE MAKE IT WORTH BUYING.
THANK YOU.

So I bought this book on a whim, as I was headed out for a flight for business travel and like to decompress and read fashion focused books, blogs and magazines. The packaging sold me and "It" is on so many blog wish gift lists. Wow what a disappointment. Love Alexa, but this book was all over the place, random pics, no caption or random tie ins to the text. Example, was reading about her stylish grandfather expecting to turn the page and see him, but low and behold just nude shots. No issue with random nudes but made no sense?! This book reads like random thoughts and pictures tucked into a notebook, no unifying story. Read the book in an hour and it just felt awkward, no real fashion tips, insider where to score cool pieces or insight into a cohesive story of who she is...so disappointed. Pretty pink for your vanity, don't expect to be wowed.

Ok. This book was nothing better than ok. Honestly, I probably should have only given it two stars it was that bad. I personally love fashion and I have read and liked numerous other "fashion insider" books but this one basically felt like a joke. The only remotely interesting thing in this book is when Alexa references the people that inspire her fashion choices. But, if you also feel that Jeremy Irons floppy hair makes you want to wear burberry and miu miu then you and Alexa are two of a kind (anyone who read the book will know what I am referring too). Her whole post on "how to take a selfie" was so bad I couldn't read the whole thing. The whole book feels like she took her "I try to look like I don't care but I do" attitude a little too far. She honestly gives no worthwhile advice or even puts an effort into making the book interesting. If your are going to spend $30 on a book, buy Grace Coddington's Memoir! She is the stylist for Vogue US and that book seriously inspired me so much more than this crap. I wish someone would have told me how bad this book was and I would have been $30 richer.

The book is so boring and unoriginal. Looks like it has been written overnight without a thought-through content. The drawings and photographs are also dull and pervert, you can find them on her Instagram without paying $22.00. Seriously - not worth it.

'It' was a disappointment, but there was a still a certain charm to 'It' that I could not help but like 'It," despite 'It's' flaws.

I jumped on the Alexa Chung fan bandwagon not long before the hardcover was published, and I happened to be downtown shortly afterward where I purchased a copy of 'It.' It technically had not been released in the US just yet, but the Strand bookstore had a copy for $18.

Upon first impression, the book is beautiffuly designed. Think Holly Golightly meets Nylon Magazine. Fans of older hardcovers will appreciate the fabric binding on the outside and the polka-dotted flyleaves on the inside. The minimalist cover is perfect and compelling.

It's the contents of the book that matter most, though, and this is where the brilliant, cheeky, and cultured Alexa Chung falters. I'm not saying she can't write. I'm saying she would have benefited from having a strong editor to help her collect her thoughts and figure out what 'It' truly is. Is 'It' a style book? A rant on life? A memoir? A collection of musings, photos, and doodles? I suppose It's the latter, but considering how well Alexa presents her thoughts on television, I was hoping for a more cohesive book. The "hodge podge book" can be done well, when the author has a goal in mind and stays on target. Alexa did say this was a side project and that she wrote it through *emails*, so the scatterbrained nature of the book doesn't surprise me. As another reviewer (I forget where) pointed out, the lack of photo captions does make the book a little confusing. Not every photo is of Alexa. It becomes clear towards the end of the book that Alexa was running out of steam and decided to throw just about anything into the pot. If you cannot redeem a book in the latter half, you have failed.

What bothers me most is that Penguin decided to publish this. I always thought of Penguin as a more prestigious, highly-esteemed publisher, but if they're willing to publish books like this, I wonder what their criteria is. Maybe we should all send manuscripts to Penguin! (Of course, Alexa's star quality probably helped her land the book deal.)

Despite all of the above, I sincerely hope Alexa makes a second try at bookwriting and produces something that has better readability and more focus in terms of photo choice. Perhaps a memoir. I believe she can do it.

Fun for what it is. I think the reviewers on here are being too harsh. It's a fun, light book. Alexa is funny and it's a very entertaining read, made me laugh out loud sometimes. I thin it's a bit over priced for what it is though.

I was sadly disappointed with this book. I was looking forward to it so much. Thankfully my friend bought it for me as a gift, I would have been wanting my money back otherwise. There is little substance to this book. I was hoping to get somewhat of an insight as to who Alexa was as a person, and maybe a few fashion tips here or there. There were moments of insight which I did enjoy, like when she was talking about when she first started out as a model, but otherwise you'll find out more about her in interviews you find online. As for fashion tips, again I suggest searching online as there are little to none in this book. The book is very unstructured, which is fine, it lends to the scrapbook feeling this book has, given the fact that there are a great deal of photos in here. Alexa, I'm a big fan, but I cannot say I enjoyed this book.
