It Kills Me to know that this girl hasn't blown up yet. 4 stars.,

Or has she? Her video Give It To Me Right has about 800,000 hits on Youtube which is pretty decent for an R&B act, especially a new one. I think what really carries this girl over though is her voice. It's got enough strength for her to get noticed which I love. But It Kills Me is a fun song about the ups and downs of life and being in a relationship that gives you life but takes you on a joyride which isn't always pleasant. "I got trouble with my friends, trouble in my life," Melanie spits. "Problems when you don't come home at night." I'm so glad it was a single because I wasn't feeling her first single at all until after I started liking this song. She's got a great voice and I hope a bright future is ahead of her. Down the road, I hope she focuses more on the R&B and Soul in music because that's where her voice is. She doesn't have to do any Pop which I love but I'm not sure if that's her specialty. As long as there are good songs such as this one and "You Stop My Heart" which I downloaded from here today, then I will be pleased. 4 stars. end note: As the year closes, I just hope that whatever higher being is ruling this Earth, continues to bring at least "some" good music to our hearts and minds. We sure do need it.

Doesn't Really Kill,
By Michael Kerner "Michael Kerner" (Brooklyn, New York U.S.A.) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE)

When it has came down to new acts, there have been very few and far between that can strike the chord. But for newcomers, they can really bring out a surprise or two. That does come with the case for newcomer Melanie Fiona. While her first single wasn't so strong from her debut album The Bridge, Give It To Me, was a weak debut track, and didn't strike that nail on the head. Her seocnd single fairs a bit better with It Kills Me. The song brings out a bit more soul from her voice, that has shown to be a nice surprise, especially with all the lackluster songs out there from wannabe acts like Rihanna and Beyonce' that have been released, that have been overdone, and lagging soul from the heart. I really hope Melanie can keep up really delivering more songs like this for the continuation of her career. She does have a lot she has to prove, and she can really do it, and hope it doesn't kill either.

Pathetic girls like this are absurd.,

While I will give Miss Fiona credit for writing a true R&B ballad about the ups and downs associated with love, I think it's absurd that a man can do all this to a woman. Bottom line honey, if your man is running out on you (several times overrrrr) it's time to DROP KICK HIM OUT OF THE DOOR. Point, period, blank. Every time I hear this song I flip the station because of how ridiculous it sounds and how pathetic the girls are that actually listen to this song over and over again to soothe their broken heart. Ladies, can we grow beyond this sort of mentality?

The new standard,

Melanie Fiona's haunting vocals and spirit stirring lyrics create the perfect storm. "It Kills Me" sets the new standard for melancholic soul (no pun intended).

Great voice, Tells a story...,
This review is from: It Kills Me (MP3 Download)
Melanie Fiona is new to me, but from the first time I heard this song, I knew she had something worth listening to.
To me, this song tells a story about something someone is going through, in a way that brings all the emotion and complexity, even if it's not a situation I might see myself allowing. The strength of Melanie's vocals, and the musical accompaniment are so strong, they override all else. It Kills Me is definitely a song that makes me want to explore more of her music, and give her the chance to show what else she can do. |
