About the Author

Declan Finn lives in a part of New York City unreachable by bus or subway. Who's Who has no record of him, his family, or his education. He has been trained in hand to hand combat and weapons at the most elite schools in Long Island, and figured out nine ways to kill with a pen when he was only fifteen. He escaped a free man from Fordham University's PhD program, and has been on the run ever since. There was a brief incident where he was branded a terrorist, but only a court order can unseal those records, and really, why would you want to know? It Was Only On Stun! is his first novel

This enthralling tale is an action-packed mystery that takes place primarily at a science fiction convention in New York. The novel is focused on a multi-talented security specialist who is hired to protect a science-fiction actress from her political enemies. Throughout the story, Finn does an excellent job of reminding the reader of the tremendous amount of ethnic and religious intolerance and hatred that exists in our society. However, the drama of the story is often made lighthearted by the author's perfectly timed comic quips and witticisms which can make even the most stoic of readers smile. The story is easy-to-read and once started, very difficult to put down. I highly recommend this enjoyable work. Add a "star" if you are either a science fiction fan or have lived in Queens or Long Island and can appreciate the author's commentary on the local neighborhoods, celebrities, or media.

I had such a hard time trying to follow the book. I am a bit of a sci-fi nut (part of the story line) and I had a hell of a time trying to figure out who was what. Multiple chapters that should have been condensed to one chapter tops. This book was all over the place. I really wanted to enjoy this book and after putting it down cause it just dragged (half way through mind you) I'd try to give it another go, But I'd just put it down again. I was jumping chapters it dragged so much.

I was too stunned after about five pages to continue any further. I hate to belittle anyone's efforts, but this one needs work.

If there exists a James Joyce of popular culture or a David Lodge of science fiction fantasy, Declan Finn must be he. This novel pokes fun at action heroes, terrorist policing, conventions in general and sci-fi conventions in particular, American higher education, and notorious contemporary celebrities. This is where the book is at its best.

A reader versed in popular culture would no doubt see even more learned allusions than I did, but no matter. The quirky humor makes it fun for any reader.
