Product Description

From the Manufacturer

This is an Italeri 1 1/72 scale plastic model kit. The supersonic XB-70 Valkyrie was the prototype version of the proposed B-70 nuclear-armed for the United States Air Force's Strategic Air Command. Designed in the late 1950s, the Valkyrie was a large six-engined aircraft able to fly Mach 3+ at an altitude of 70,000' allowing it to avoid interceptors, which was the only effective anti-bomber weapon at the time. Two XB-70 prototypes were built for the U.S. Air Force in 1964, one crashed in testing and the other is on display at the National Museum of the Air Force in Ohio. It is considered by many to be the most beautiful aircraft ever constructed. Italeri's 1/72 kit is licenced by Boeing and is a big model, with a fuselage length of 30.9" and wingspan of 17.5". Accuracy abounds with cockpit, seats and landing gear details as well as detailed exhaust nozzles. The kit is molded in grey plastic and comes with precise painting instructions and a complete decal set to finish the model.

Product Description

1/72 Scale. Kit has raised and recessed surface detail, basic cockpit, detailed landing gear with flattened tires and optional parts to build either raised or 25 degree drooped outer wing panels

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Poor Quality, July 7, 2011

This review is from: Italeri XB-70 Valkyrie (Toy)
Unfortunately, as the other reviewer stated, this is a poor quality model with very little detail for the size. Be prepared for lots of putty work to smooth out the poor fitting parts. This thing is huge though and I think it'll be worth the effort when it's complete. Putting the wings together requires very awkward clamping. I agree with the other reviewer that this model does not even come close to doing this airplane justice.

This is a big model. I mean big. A lot of plastic but very little detail. It almost looks like foam. To me, this is the most beautiful plane ever built but this kit doesn't do it justice. For the price, I expected more but there aren't that many options out there. So if this is a favorite ship of yours...go ahead. Just be prepared to work on it to make it seem real.

I ordered the kit from amazon but had to return it coz it was lacking in instructions and decal sheet...i can do some scratchbuilding and detailing for the kit coz it's the only 1/72 kit of this kind and i wanted to do a set of 1/72 bombers, commissioned or otherwise. It's unfortunate that the parts lacking from this kit was not replaced........
