3.0 out of 5 stars La Voce Dolce - Jerry Vale, June 21, 2000
This review is from: Italian Album (Audio CD)
Perche solamente tre stelle? Dunque, Il CD "Jerry Vale sings the Great Italian Hits" e' megliore.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, but not Jerry's Best, July 25, 2003

This review is from: Italian Album (Audio CD)
Writing as a Jerry Vale connoisseur, the only two songs on this CD that are given the true Vale treatment of emotion and full voiced high notes are "Non Ti Scordar Di Me" and "Amore Scuzami". While the rest are beautifully orchestrated, Jerry's vocals are weaker than normal with too much vocal vibrato. It sounds as though he's concentrating on getting the Italian lyrics correct more than he's paying attention to the emotional values of each song. Consequently, with most of the songs, he sounds unsure of what to do next, and unfortunatley his voice comes across lacking emotion and it's usual perfection. The normal smile in his voice is not there.

A better choice would be his CD "Jerry Vale Sings the Great Italian Hits". There you will find Jerry's recordings bright, energenic, and powerful.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just OK, December 21, 2011
This review is from: Italian Album (Audio CD)
Is it really possible to mispronounce "mia" and "mio"? In Non ti scordar' di me this singer accomplishes exactly that.
Then there are wrong words: I think he means sempre and not sempro.

The production values are fine, so if you put this on for background music and don't really listen to it, it's just OK.

3.0 out of 5 stars Here's the English Part, June 26, 2000
This review is from: Italian Album (Audio CD)
I previously reviewed this CD in Italian. A few of the "paisani" here on base, who read my review (prior to submitting it to AMAZON.COM), asked if I would say a few words in English.

I have always be a Jerry Vale fan. In my opinion, he has one of the most lovely voices a male singer could ever hope to possess. Jerry Vale is truly a gifted singer.

I first purchased the Jerry Vale Italian Album back in the early 80's (the original LP format) for my father. However, I soon found myself playing this LP more than my dad.

When the CD format came out, I immediately purchased it. The sound quality is excellent. Jerry's voice never sounded more fresh and crisp. His renditions of "Oh, Marie" and "Torna!" are truly remarkable. This is really a very good CD.

So, why did I only give this CD three stars? Don't get me wrong, this is a good CD. Unfortuately, for this CD, another collection came out on CD format: "Jerry Vale Sings the Great Italian Hits." "The Italian Album" offers 11 songs -- presented in Italian and English. "Sings the Great Italian Hits" gives the listener 18 songs -- two of which, "Mala Femmina" and "La Luna Rossa" are nothing less than breath taking. Also, three of the songs on the "Italian Album" are featured on "Sings the Great Italian Hits." Jerry Vale also does a solid renditon of "Volare." However, the Dean Martin version is a lot better.

The "Sings the Great Italian Hits" CD offers more songs, and the sound quality is much better. Therefore, I recommend that you pay the extra couple of dollars to get "Sings the Great Italian Hits." For what you get in return, it is definitely worth it.
