Ms. Andrews weaves wonderful love stories!, February 21, 2012
The Italian Count's Baby by Amy Andrews Mills & Boon Medical - Nov 2007 Harlequin Medical # 341 - March 2008 Katya Petrova is a surgical nurse with MedSurg an aid group on missions to the war torn regions of the world. Determined never to become emotionally involved, she thrived on the adrenaline charged environment. Count Beneditto Medeci was Katya's only source of angst. The playboy surgeon seemed to know just what buttons to push to get her rattled. Katya captivated Ben. No other woman treated him so openly with disdain, and Ben found that intoxicatingly sexy. When Ben receives some devastating news from home, Katya gives Ben the comfort he sorely needs. Ben leaves the mission to return to Italy, and is surprised when Katya calls him for a job at his ritzy clinic. She soon reveals that she is carrying his child and that she has no intentions of raising it. Once the baby is born, Ben will take the child. This situation astounds the traditionalist in Ben, and he proposes, only to be coldly rejected. We met both Ben and Katya in Ms. Andrews' The Surgeon's Meant-To-Be-Bride. It was lovely to meet them again. Katya can't get past her tragic childhood; one that convinces her that she'd be a horrible mother. Ben has experienced betrayal, and has vowed never to love again. Loving their unborn child is the link these two need to show them their destiny. This is an emotional love story that touches your heart. I like the layers Ms. Andrews gives her characters, their surfaces are so very different from what lies beneath. And I like the way we see inside them; how we get their thoughts and feel their fears. Ms. Andrews weaves wonderful love stories, and I'm eagerly looking forward to catching up on her backlist!

This book made me cry. Sure, it's a steamy romance, but it's so much more. The author didn't just have the characters move forward in their relationship, she gave them rich yet painful histories that impacted every step they took in their journey. It wasn't just emotional baggage. She compounded the problems in the heroine's past until I, as a reader, wondered how Katya could ever have turned out as well as she did. Oh wait--that explains why she...no, I'd better not say that... What would you do if you got pregnant from a one-night stand yet had a past so disturbing you couldn't imagine bringing another child into it in case history repeated itself? And even though you love the life growing inside you more than you love living, you'd rather leave your baby with its father than bring it home and tempt fate. What if your baby's father, Count Benedetto Medici, had wealth beyond your dreams? Your baby would never know the gnawing hunger and bitter cold that went along with poverty. It seemed like the perfect solution except Katya can't stand Ben's life of decadence. She doesn't understand why he prefers to waste his surgery skills on something so fleeting as physical beauty. What kind of child grows up in an atmosphere like that? But, at least her baby would have his father's love...wouldn't he? There's only one way to find out. Nurse Katya Petrov takes a job working alongside the Italian plastic surgeon to find out if he even wants a child. If he really is daddy material, she'll leave the baby behind and run as fast as she can. Ben doesn't want a relationship and certainly not a baby, but something happened to him the night be made love to Katya. She irreversibly changed him. Now, she's back and pregnant with his child and he doesn't want to let her go. I slid into this story, heart and mind...I weaved in my chair as we drove the treacherous Italian roads...I was pregnant again...I could feel the flutterings...feel the kicks...feel myself grow huge...feel his hand splayed across my belly...I'm pregnant again...what...I can't be pregnant again...I already have 4 kids...I'm too old...I...oh...hee hee...it's only Amy's book...whew! Heat Level: Yummy

This review is from: The Italian Count's Baby (Medical Romance) (Paperback)
Katya Petrov is certain she cannot be a good mother to her unborn child. A one night stand with Count Benedetto while they both worked for MedSurge has left her pregnant. Katya has traveled to Italy to tell Ben he will be a father... and to give him the child to raise once born. Will these two recognize the love that is between them? Or will their hurtful pasts get in the way? Wow, what a scorcher! Amy Andrews writes some very hot scenes. The passion that flares up between Katya and Ben is both steamy and believable. In every scene between them, the love that is there shines through. THE ITALIAN COUNT'S BABY is one of those feel good stories that still manages to be thought provoking at the same time. Both Ben and Katya have been hurt in the past. Despite the obvious differences in their living styles, these two really are very similar at heart. Katya will have to learn to look beyond Ben's wealthy playboy appearance as she learns his secrets... and he learns hers. Katya's mother is one of the vilest characters I have ever read and after reading her brief encounter with Katya, it is easy to see why Katya has the shell around her heart. THE ITALIAN COUNT'S BABY is easily recommended! If you haven't tried one of the Harlequin Medical Romances, let me recommend this author as her stories have it all!
