5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Recorder Music!, October 28, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Italian and English Music for Recorder and Lute (Audio CD)
This is the CD that turned me on to early music. It is simply fabulous. Jakob Lindberg is the better known artist, and his work on this CD is as good as on his other disks, but it is Pehrsson's recorder playing which makes this disk so amazing. The expressiveness and fluidness of his playing makes one note seem to flow inevitably into the next. If you own only one disk which features recorder music, let this be the one.

3.0 out of 5 stars not the best, September 2, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Italian and English Music for Recorder and Lute (Audio CD)
I don't think this is a very important cd. I like the repertory, excluding the usual ones (like castello sii) but I don't like c.p recorder playing so much. He belong to the so called nervous recorder player type, the ones who make the fast sequences of notes a little bit ahead of time, and then stop to wait the continuo at the cadenza. Is just little tiny bit, but happens all the time, and for the listener is like raiding a crazy horse in the far west. Also the well trained ear can hear a not 100% clean technique, sometimes harsh and erratic when you expect a smooths links between the notes. All of this IMHO is a little bit annoying because here we are talking about a very renown player.
Also I have to say that I'm not agree with the overall phrasing I found somehow stiff and not rhetorical, fixated with the idea that proportio means keeping the beat no matter what happens musically. I'm saying this not to diminish c.p. who I respect, is only to keep things in proportion, if you are looking for the best recorder cd ever, look elsewhere.
