Product Description

True or False: Baking fresh bread requires professional skills and can't be performed in a home kitchen. False. Crafted from hard-fired ceramic stone, this roomy 14-by-15-inch rectangular tile goes into any standard oven to cook like the pros. Unlike a metal baking sheet, the natural material mimics the action of a brick oven by evenly distributing extremely high heats, providing better temperature retention, and absorbing excess moisture from the dough to develop a crispy crust. Stone also doesn't warp or wear out and requires very little care or maintenance. Mamma mia, now that's amore. Ideal for cooking pizza as well, the stone comes with a stainless steel pizza cutter featuring a handsome wood handle. Now go forth and bake. Transform your oven into an old brick hearth oven with our 14 X 15 Rectangular Bread Baking Stone. The stone bakes evenly without hot spots and includes a jumbo pizza cutter

Customer Reviews

The stone works well for pizzas and other bakery.

Decided a few weeks ago to buy the more expensive one from Pampered Chef since I also have one of theirs and it has no odor at all.

I haven't used this product yet, but was disappointed that i received what appears to be a return item.

I used to have a pizza/bread stone, and I hated the darned thing. First, it really did have a terrible odor from the start. I didn't realize that wasn't 'normal'. Then over time, everything got stuck to it. And finally I just tossed it in the trash.

Hesitantly bought this one. Had read all the reviews on it, and particularly for the money, seemed to have the best overall reviews. Was skeptical, but had wanted to start trying to bake 'artisan' bread, and the recipe I was using was very specific about baking directly on a stone only, and using a pizza peel to get bread in and out of oven.

Took new stone from box - happy to note there was no odor at all when I stuck my nose on it - brushed off the little bits of styrophome from the packaging, and without doing anything else to it, set it directly into my oven and turned it on to 500*. Had the worst fear I'd hear a big "pop", indicating the stone had cracked in half. But it didn't. Cooked stone like that for an hour - not a hint of scent coming from my oven.

Used the Prime shipping, so knew stone would be here in 2 days - had gone ahead and made the bread dough I'd been dying to try. Was a little worried though - my recipe has you keep dough in fridge until you bake it - was concerned about putting cold dough on extremely hot stone. But - was no problem at all. Cold bread dough + hot baking stone = no problem! Pizza peel came in same shipment, and it slid my dough onto the hot stone much easier than if I'd have tried to do it with my hands (I'll rephrase - slid the dough onto hot stone so I wouldn't burn the crap out of my hands and probably my arms too!).

Bread came out exactly as cookbook writer said it would - dark and crusty.

Never dropped, didn't get it wet, no thermal shock.... just broke in two inside the oven one day. I had it for less than a month at that time. Very disappointed. Oh well, I have a pizza cutter still, I guess....

delicate meaning: yes, it's one of the cheapest pizza stones out there. But as with any pizza stone, subject a hot stone to even the smallest amount of moisture (IE: a bit of sauce or cheese from the edge of the pizza) and it will crack VERY easily. But other than that it is a nice sized stone at a great price. Just be careful with it.

Oh, and yes, it did come with a cheap pizza wheel that I have never used.

I cannot express to you enough how much I hate this pizza stone. I ordered my first one several months ago and was very excited to begin using it. I made sure to preheat the stone for the appropriate 30-40 minutes before using it and took special care to scrape and wipe it off with a dry cloth before storing it away. However, after the 5th time using it, it broke in half completely. I promptly wrote amazon and told them and they very kindly sent me a new one for free (kudos to amazon's customer service) and apologized for the problem. I've since been using my 2nd pizza stone and one of the corners completely broke off after it had cooled. Not sure what I'm going to do to make pizza but I am most definitely not going to buy any other products from this particular company. This is a terrible pizza stone!

I'm no expert on baking, so I can't really say if this is the best stone out there, but it does the job for me. The only gripes are that, since it's somewhat porous, it collects flour sometimes, and it's hard to get them out, they they do come out pretty easily once they carbonize from repeated baking (though that in itself isn't the best outcome!).

Be sure to measure your oven to be sure this will fit.

If you need to substitute in a pinch, I hear that unglazed ceramic tiles from your nearest home-improvement/supply store will do the trick, but I don't know what the price comparison is like.

I bought this Keilen Italian Villa Baking stone for my friend for Christmas. She loves to cook and has fallen in love with the baking stone. Pizzas and bread are cooked evenly. The only small downside is that it can chip very easily. Because of its shape, the corners tend to flake/chip if gently knocked on any surface but other than that,,,couldn't ask for better!

I baked bisquits on it, they were so yummy...the crust baked up like nothing else I have ever seen. I am a little leary about how breakable it seems and my husband is somewhat clumbsey, god love him. I cannot wait to bake homemade pizza on it! The pizza cutter is run of the mill, pretty cheapo, but I already have two others, so it's a bonus, back up. I recommend this for bread, pizza bakers alike.

I haven't used this product yet, but was disappointed that i received what appears to be a return item. The box it very battered, and the booklet is missing. They shouldn't waste their time on the very cheap cutting wheel. But hopefully the stone will work well for me. If I were to do it over, I would spend a bit more and get something else.
