This review is from: Italian Regional Cooking (Hardcover)
Ada Boni's "Italian Regional Cooking" has been in three generations of kitchens in my family (don't be fooled by the English surname--we're Napolitan on Mom's side). I just ordered another one for my son to continue the tradition. Written over 40 years ago, before it was "cool" to cook Italian peasant food, this book not only gives you the recipes your grandparents (or your Italian friend's mom) made, it also has beautiful color photos of each region, the food, and a little history to boot. Sure, there's some stuff you'll never make (barbecued pigeon, anyone?), and it helps if you're familiar with UK translations (aubergine = eggplant), but overall this volume will blow away the guys cooking on TV.
