nice drawings but no information,
This review is from: Italian Renaissance Textile Designs (International Design Library) (Paperback)
Aaccording to the back cover of this book this has "authentic designs" based on textiles of the Italian Renaissance. We will just have to take their word for it, because there is no information on what century, what type of textile each design is from, etc. These are an artist's reinterpretation of design motifs, so if you are looking for information on Italian Renaissance textiles (say, for costume research) look elsewhere. Try "Full-Color Historic Textile Designs" by M. Dupont-Auberville; while it does't have photos of extant textiles, it does provide information on where and when the original textile was produced, along with a larger scale drawing of the fabric design. If you can find a copy of "A Treasury of Great Italian Textiles", an older book by Antonino Santangelo, that would be even better, as it provides actual photos of extant textiles from the period.

Textile design,

This book has simple line drawing of Italian textiles but unfortunately there is no documentation to indicate the specifics of each primary source. I found it of limited usefulness as I am looking for where a source pattern came from, what year it was used (approximately), and ideally what the original material used was. For the price, it is fair if you are just looking for design ideas.

This book has line drawings depicting textile designs from the Italian renaissance. I had to laugh when I read the other reviews that complained that the book didn't contain information on the century or country of origin. The country is Italy. The Italian renaissance took place roughly between 1300-1600. This is a pretty broad range but narrows things down to a definable time socio-politically and artistically. The book is not exhaustive on the subject but for the price it is pretty good. Probably not a book for costumers; quilters, embroiders, possibly weavers might all find it useful as I did.
