5.0 out of 5 stars If you want to learn Italian, you have to learn grammar!
This book is perfect! It takes the student through drills of endless verbs, and if you want to speak, read and/or write Italian, you must understand the verbs. It really seems quite daunting! However, get your hands on this workbook! You will be really grateful you have it! Practice an hour a day, and you'll be amazed at the language acquistion you are able to...

3.0 out of 5 stars Alright for practice, don't expect much of an explanation on verb tenses; better for begginers
I'm already on my 3rd and 4th course on Italian at college and I'm finding the explanations of verb tenses a little lacking. Also, I feel the exercises are somewhat limited. They are good practice, but I can practice better with another verb book as reference that explains the tenses better and then just using a notebook to practice each person and their plural renditions...

4.0 out of 5 stars repetition repetition, February 6, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Italian Verb Drills (Paperback)
As anyone knows, the key to learning is repition. The book is straightforward. THere are no cute cartoons, etc. here. Just verbs and worksheets. I even do the work on notebook paper, so I can go back and do the sheets again. After just completing one page of drills, I have learned a lot. She only introduces one skill at a time, so it is not overwhelming. And the added benefit is learning, of course, the meaning of the verbs. I would even suggest this book for teachers of Italian because of the way the book is set up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Italian Learning Guide I Have Found Yet, May 22, 2003
This review is from: Italian Verb Drills (Paperback)
I am currently living in Italy. I want to be able to speak with my Italian neighbors, so I bought this book. After just doing the exercises in the first chapter (only -ar verbs), I am able to converse with them better. My Italian neighbors (who speak no English) like the book so much that they asked me to buy one for them so they can learn English. The exercises are excellent. I do them on a separate piece of paper so I can do the exercises over and over again. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to learn Italian.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pratica e ripetizione! Great exercise book., February 21, 2006
This review is from: Italian Verb Drills (Paperback)
I recommend this book to my students as an extra practice book, on top of the regular material that I present during class. They can do this at their own time, even after taking the course.
Remember, learning a language is like learning a song!! A very very long song, for that matter! You hear it once, and you can't remember a thing, but as you here it more and more, and then start to repeat... you'll be singing before you know it!!
So, for those who really want to learn this musical and romantic language, DON'T GIVE UP!! Everyone feels lost at first, but with some patience, you'll be speaking.
So, I don't think this is a good book to get on its own, it's something you buy on top of other books that can actually teach you the structure. This book alone won't do it. It doesn't have enough explanation and you won't be able to do a thing with it, unless you learn some basic structures first.
It's hard to find one book that fits everyone's learning need. I like Living Language, especially for those who are serious about learning (not just cram a few phrases before a trip).
If time permits, definitely join a course in your area - there's no better practice than to practice in a group!
Also, get some audio CDs, because the books will teach you sentence structure, but the CDs will give you a correct pronunciation.
Buona fortuna!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a bargain!, October 4, 2000
This review is from: Italian Verb Drills (Paperback)
...[T]his book is a steal. It provides plenty of practice in Italian verbs and does an excellent job of preparing you for usage. The layout is straightforward and logical, and the verbs chosen are highly used and practical. The best way to learn a new language is through extensive practice and this is a fine workbook to increase one's opportunities to do so. I highly recommend it.

I have found that there is no better way to learn a language than to write it out and that is what you do in this workbook.
This method will especially appeal to the visual learner. Read the rules and practice the execises. It's a lot like the old elementary school workbook/drill approach to learning but there's no kidding yourself. You either know it or you don't.
Three conjugations, fourteen tenses, four moods and numerous irregulars make Italian verbs a challenge to learn; however, the material is presented in a simple yet lucid format. There are some errors in the answer key which the more advanced student will easily notice. I am not sure if this book is intended for the absolute beginner; nevertheless, I highly recommend it for anyone at the basic or intermediate skill level and as quick review for the more advanced student. Don't forget your pencil and erasure. You will need them.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Buy Italian Reference Guide - Better with Behind the Wheel Italian, September 17, 2005
This review is from: Italian Verb Drills (Paperback)
From the overview of Italian verbs to the present and imperfect subjunctive tenses, this book is a CLASSIC MUST BUY. It is clear and quite simple to use and has a complete
answer key in the back which is essential for checking your work. Very well organized and with brief yet complete explanations that guide you through the world of Italian verbs.
If you are serious about learning Italian, then you must buy this book as a constant reference tool. You'll be using it constantly.
Since the book doesn't come with any recordings, I would recommend you buy Behind the Wheel Italian to accompany Italian Verb Drills. Many of the tenses in Italian Verb Drills are included in Behind the Wheel Italian and it gives you an opportunity to practice and learn how the language is really spoken.

5.0 out of 5 stars great verb help, January 10, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Italian Verb Drills (Paperback)
This book is great to use a few minutes a day. In no time you'll be much more aware of verb meaning and conjugation. I find verbs to now be one of my strong suits in the language. You can even do it in pencil, then erase it and start over (it's in workbook format). Combine it with a few other sources of Italian learning for the maximum effect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better With Italian Behind the Wheel Complete, July 10, 2006
By
Michelle (San Diego, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Italian Verb Drills (Paperback)
I took Amazon's advice and bought Italian Verb Drills to complement my Italian Behind the Wheel Complete Course.
Excellent together.
Italian Verb Drills is a true guide to Italian verbs. What I love about this reference is that there is a complete answer key at the back of the book and that ALL tenses are covered.
What makes this guide so effective with Behind the Wheel Italian Complete is that virtually all of the verb tenses you hear on the CDs you see in the verb book.
The Pimsleur course I used and returned didn't even scratch the surface of the depth and richness of Italian Behind the Wheel Complete so Italian Verb Drills would have been next to useless with it since Pimsleur doesn't cover enough verb tenses and vocabulary to make it worthwhile to buy.
Behind the Wheel Italian Complete 9CDs on the other hand is virtually 'loaded' with verb tenses from the present to the subjunctive. All in one course.
I do heartily recommend you buy Italian Verb Drills if you take on Italian Behind the Wheel Complete.
You'll need it and you will learn faster.

5.0 out of 5 stars Italian verbs, June 27, 2006
This review is from: Italian Verb Drills (Paperback)
I am finding this work book to go along very well with my Pimsleur language CDs. There are good exercises to reinforce useage. I am a beginner learner and am finding it well written, easy to follow and extremely helpful. I am using it in conjunction with Barron's Italian Verb work book as well and am finding that they explain things a little differently from each other, so what I don't get from one I get from the other.
