1.0 out of 5 stars The Story got on my Nerves., April 1, 2002
By
This story is ridiculous. The hero never believes anything the heroine says. He never listens to her and because the doctor says no sex, he decides not to sleep in the same bed with his wife because of his 'if we are not having sex then why bother sleeping in the same bed' attitude. He is so completely dense! he believes his wife has been cheating on him with several men and that she may be disease infested so he wears condoms so he won't get her diseases.

And yet this weak heroine stands for all of this treatment for no reason except to keep this miserable story moving. She never confronts his wrong assumptions by just telling the truth. Instead she withdraws and is annoyingly silent. She runs away from him and yet he never was abusive and she never was abused. She just becomes this incredibly weak person.

The only reason I continued reading this horrible story was because I was stuck on a plane with nothing else to read. This novel is one to AVOID at all costs!! It was so terrible. I just had to write a review to warn future readers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Can't put it Down, May 26, 2003
By A Customer
The Italian's Runaway Bride was written in a way that made me not want to put it down. It is the type of romance novel that seems to just get you into the story, and how can one not love the young Kelly and her handsome, yet dense, husband. With many twists, in the end it all seems to work. I beleive this novel just proves that jumping to conclusions doesn't work, and trust is the key to any relationship. Well written and with characters that have a personality all to their own, Jacqueline Baird has written a wonderful romance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall I liked it, September 23, 2011
Kelly was acting as a nanny for her friend when she met Gianfranco Maldini looking into the window of her employer's house with a tire iron in his hand. She of course thought he was trying to break into the house. Not asking any questions she attacks him, but ends up being overtaken in the end. Very quickly these two are making out - yep look past that part because if she truly believed that he meant harm then why would she be kissing him?

Kelly is supposed to be a smart girl, well book smart at least, and Gianfranco is a very wealthy man. He introduces himself, but Kelly didn't let him finish and she thinks his name is Gian Franco. They begin dating, chemistry sparks, they end up in bed and he discovers she is a virgin. He gets angry that she didn't tell him that she is innocent and believes that she is just trying to trap him. Kelly has no idea that Gianni has money . . . he failed to mention that. Seems like they are both even on the score of keeping things back, huh? Apologies are made for this and he still wants to see her, but he still hasn't revealed his true name to her. When she discovers that he is COUNT Gianfranco Maldini she is not happy at all. This gets smoothed over until she sees him in the paper with another woman and off she goes - no questions asked.

It would seem that Kelly does jump to conclusions several times and Gianni doesn't always correct her on these assumptions of hers. They do end up marrying, because she gets pregnant, but there are even more hardships in their relationship and she eventually runs again. This time she did so after eavesdropping on a conversation between her hubby and another person. She feels she needs to protect her child. Kelly jumped to conclusions once again w/out seeking answers.

For the most part I liked the story. I liked that their relationship, marriage, and subsequent estrangement takes time to build and resolve; it wasn't a quick month type situation. I felt that he had good reason to believe the other individual that was tattling on Kelly and stirring up trouble. Kelly was pregnant at the time and she does have a tendency to jump to conclusions. Gianni seemed to deal with facts when he thought the worst of Kelly. He had the other person that she was living with investigated and it appeared that that individual and gotten around a lot. I have to mention that towards the end of the story Kelly actually punches Gianni in the nose, but he deserved it.
