I've had pretty good results with this product, although I see a lot of negative reviews on it. I think it is really a matter of following the instructions exactly and maintaining the unit. 1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy
I bought one from a mall kiosk. Problems: (1) black water will get on your clothes if you are not careful to rinse it out each time. (2) You have to refill it 2 or 3 times for each shirt. (3) The unit gets very hot and if you are not careful to only touch the handle, you will get burned. (4) It takes more power the more salt you put in it. It would dim my lights and it...

DO NOT BUY. Learn from my mistake.
I am a jerk for buying THREE at the mall. I was weary at first, but I tried it and it really seemed to work. I have been looking for a good steamer and I bought two more for presents. It doesn't work. Brown stuff has ruined my favorite shirt. I went back to the mall kiosk and he told me to bring it back and he will look at it, acting totally "surprised" about the brown stuff. Please, give me a break. The biggest tragedy is that I can't find my receipt to return them and now I am out $100 and my best shirt.

1.0 out of 5 stars Product is a complete rip-off/scam; Buyer Beware, August 30, 2008

This review is from: Italsteam Light Weight Travel Steam Iron - Dual Voltage (Kitchen)
I was in Vegas like another reviewer and bought this product thinking: 1. Quality must be good as it was made in Italy 2. Somehow, it worked in the kiosk and I even tried it myself.

I took it home (followed directions perfectly), and it just did not do a great job at all. In fact, it had a brown stuff coming out on the clothes. I will contact customer service and perhaps the credit card company.

I suppose, my only saving grace is that hopefully this review and others I will post online will prevent people from making the mistake that I did. A mistake that cost me 40 dollars.

Thanks

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well and a pretty good value for the price..., August 10, 2010

I've had pretty good results with this product, although I see a lot of negative reviews on it. I think it is really a matter of following the instructions exactly and maintaining the unit. If the right amount of salt is not added the first time it is filled up, the steamer won't heat up properly or as fast as it should. It's true that a brown liquid results in the steamer as well. However, I just make it a point to rinse it out and make sure it is empty after each use so it is not stored with the water in it. When operated properly it really does generate a nice stream of steam very quickly and does a great job getting wrinkles out. I travel a lot and hate using and iron in a hotel room so for me it's perfect. Especially since it it so small and easy to pack and weighs next to nothing. Not a bad investment for under 30 bucks with free shipping, and I haven't had any problems with mine yet.

1.0 out of 5 stars Mine blew up on me, September 24, 2008

We bought one at the mall and when I brought it home, I tried it and when I pluged it in, it worked fine. I let the steam run out pretty much and then added some more water. I went to plug it in and I noticed that the lights in the room dimmed. I unplugged it and pluged it back in and it sparked a lot. Then when I tried once more it didn't spark but it sure dimmed the lights then tripped my breaker. I thought it might be just that room so I tried the bathroom plug. When I pluged it in the wall outlet sparked so bad it melted the inside of the wall plug. I will have to have an electritian come and fix it now. Waste of $47. I wish I had gone home to check this website out first. DO NOT BUY!

I received this product as a gift and used it often. The Italsteam does work if you follow the directions, but this steam iron feels very cheaply made. The quality is terrible and I frequently get burned because my hands sometimes touch the heated plastic. What I really do not enjoy about this product is that you have to fill up the iron with water after every shirt or two. The directions claim that there will be continuous steam for 12 minutes or so but I keep running out after 3. I have to go the sink and refill it with water constantly and it is a big hassle. I've had sparks fly from the end of the power cord at times and notice that it takes up a lot of electricity. I just don't feel safe when using this product. When using this steam iron, the cord sometimes gets loose too. One good thing about this steam iron is the fact that it is very light. I just wish this steam iron was of better quality and worked as described. You have to clean this product after every use or you might notice brown water coming out of the iron. Just follow the directions and you won't have too many problems. There are much better products out there than this! This product does work, but it's just not worth the price! I'm even complaining and I got it as a gift...

Bought at the mall.. worked a couple of times. Then plugged it in and NOTHING!! Yes, I also had the brown stuff in mine after each use. Plenty of others on the market for equal price. have e-mailed the company but I have no doubt I will not be getting a response.. figured it couldn't hurt to try.

1.0 out of 5 stars Rust, July 22, 2008
This review is from: Italsteam Light Weight Travel Steam Iron - Dual Voltage (Kitchen)
The "brown stuff" mentioned in some of the reviews for this product is most likely rust. If this iron works like a similar model I've owned in the past, it probably requires salt to be added to the water. The added salt would further accelerate the formation of rust.

You may have some luck removing rust stains from clothing using fresh or bottled lemon juice on the stains and allowing the clothing to dry in the Sun. Then, wash the clothing as usual. If that doesn't work, you may want to try a product know as, "Iron Out."

Summit Brands #IO12N 18OZ Super Iron Out

In any case, try to remove the rust stains BEFORE you put the clothing through the dryer (i.e., first try lemon juice and then try Iron Out). Otherwise, the heat from the dryer may cause the stains to set permanently.
