We were in Italy in 1997 and these wonderful books were for sale. However, the thought of carrying around the extra weight was too much to overcome AND I thought we would be able to find the book in the states. Wrong. We are so thrilled to have this book in our collection. It does such a great job of presenting what the current ruins might have looked like in their prime. Love those acetate layers. For anyone studying ancient Italy, getting ready to tour Italy or just curious, this is wonderful book.

I purchased this book for my family prior to taking a trip to Italy. It really gives a great idea of what the ruins looked like in earlier times and makes them come alive. I would highly suggest you purchase this book for children or adults - and I'm very hopeful that it will fit in my suitcase! We also purchased the Ancient Greece book, but I do like this one better for it's smaller size.

When in Europe I picked up a similar product for Ephesus and also one for Rome. Later on Amazon I picked up one for Pompeii, Athens and this one for Italy. The plastic overlays showing what ruins looked like when new make viewing sites much more enjoyable. And descriptions in all these publications are helpful. I only wish they had them for Egypt! If they do I have not found them!

If you are going to Europe or if you have been and want to revisit these sites, or if you are just interested in these sites, this is a very helpful book. I can recommend all of the Past and Present Vision books. Some come with DVD or CD and some do not. This particular one does not but those that include these items are merely pluses since the books themselves are terrific.
