Ito En Sencha Shot is a very decent product and a nice departure from the current run of energy drinks. Following the wildfire success of Red Bull, company after company has come up with energy drinks involving high concentrations of caffeine and taurine. Caffeine has known long-term effects on health, while taurine has barely been studied.

3.0 out of 5 stars good sencha, very bitter
This has a very distinct sencha flavor and was very, very bitter. It tasted like it had been steeped 20 minutes too long - which probably means it's really good for you or something. Not recommended unless you like strong Sencha and tannin flavor.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something Nice, June 12, 2007

Ito En Sencha Shot is a very decent product and a nice departure from the current run of energy drinks. Following the wildfire success of Red Bull, company after company has come up with energy drinks involving high concentrations of caffeine and taurine. Caffeine has known long-term effects on health, while taurine has barely been studied.

Sencha Shot is a refreshing departure from the common approach to sports/energy drinks. Instead of loading it with strange things that produce a big lift in the drinker's feelings of overall physical energy, Sencha shot takes a milder and much more sensible approach giving the drinker a quick dose of chilled green tea with some vitamin C added, offering the *positive* health effects of the green tea's antioxidant properties. To put that another way, in comparison with other "proper" energy drinks like Red Bull, Amp, MDX, Rock Star etc, etc, drinking Sencha Shot is a lot less like getting hit with a hammer.

Now it's true that you could for all intents and purposes get all the effects of Sencha Shot by brewing a big pot of decent-quality green tea, and then eating an orange, but it wouldn't be portable and you'd look very strange if you offered it to someone.

Be that as it may, the most I can tell you about it is that I like it. It's good and good for you and it's not expensive. In fact, when bought by the case, on a per-can basis, it costs around half what Starbuck's doubleshot espresso does and there's not a thing wrong with it. It may be the only "energy drink" on the market that you could give to a child with a clear conscience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Energy, October 10, 2007
This review is from: Ito En Sencha Shot, 6.4-Ounce Cans (Pack of 30) (Grocery)
This is just how tea is taken in Japan, but put into a steel can. A touch of astringecny (a preferred taste for Japanese green tea) is a small price to pay for all of the naturally occurring antioxidants to be had from this unsisified, fiesty little drink.

Great alternative to the popular caffeinated drinks. No crash and burn after drinking this green tea drink. It's a nice pick-me-up.
The only problem is with the packaging. Some of the cans were dented.

If you want to pump up your antioxidants and get a natural lift then this little can-can. I would advise drinking it cold as it is a pretty strong brew!!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is good stuff, June 2, 2008
This review is from: Ito En Sencha Shot, 6.4-Ounce Cans (Pack of 30) (Grocery)
I've purchased 2 cases now. The 1st one was dented like crazy, but no damage to the product. The 2nd one was perfectly fine. I love the convenience of the can and it's a really good strong tea. I've even got some of my friends drinking it now. When I can't brew my own at home, this stuff is great on the go. It's pure japanese green tea, no other fillers, additives, sugar, etc. It's provides you energy, but it's not bogus energy that turns into a crash.

5.0 out of 5 stars It is the best, March 3, 2008

I can't say enough good things about this product. I shop at whole foods and when they run out which is quite often I always get upset. I am not saying this is a weight loss product but I always drink my sencha when I want to take off a few pounds. It never fails I always feel great and look great when I incorporate this product in my daily life. The other green teas on the market have all kinds of junk in them and this is just refreshing green tea.

5.0 out of 5 stars For those on the go or have the money to buy this stuff, May 13, 2010

What can I add that hasn't already been said? It is something to get accustomed to but once you have this powerful stuff in a little can for over a week, it'll be hard to go back to those over caffeinated "energy" drinks. Well worth the money you pay and much more healthier for you as well.
If you don't have the time or patience to brew your own tea, this is one of the greatest drinks for those on the go.

If you do have time to brew, I recommend buying the 100 pack Matcha green tea box from Costco, it is from ItoEn as well.

If you feel that its too bitter, try it with some pellegrino or perrier mixed with lemon or whatever fruit you like to add that splash of flavor.

You won't regret purchasing unless you are those people that got some dented cans in their case.

Enjoy and cheers!

I won't claim that this product tastes great, but I pour the shot into a big glass of my regular honey sweetened tea and drink it at lunch during the work day. I have energy enough to make the rest of the day and the drive home and feel as though I am making a positive impact on my health. It is as easy as carrying the case into my office and popping the top at lunch! How easy is that?? It is a nice quality tea that someone else brewed. Can't beat it, especially with the Amazon deals!

Yes it does have a bold taste. But I enjoy it. If your a coffee drinker or you enjoy black tea you will like the taste of Sencha shot. It's a bold taste with wonderful health benefits.

5.0 out of 5 stars I like the way it tastes, July 5, 2010
This review is from: Ito En Sencha Shot, 6.4-Ounce Cans (Pack of 30) (Grocery)
OK, i know i'm in the minority here but i really like the way it tastes... w/o any sugar. Plus it's really good for you... if you have the money. Also, read today that green tea prevents dental decay so that makes me feel better. Plus you really can't go wrong with zero calories.. or close to that right?
