Editorial Reviews

After their debut adventure Jolly Roger, Santa Hates You have left their pirate ship behind and brought monstrous reinforcements with them. Their latest onslaught upon mankind, society, and morals goes by the name It s ALIVE! and starts as spooky as one would expect from a horror movie soundtrack by Jinxy and her murderous sidekick Peter Spilles. Opener Independence is a weapon of epic proportions: with its marching beats, hectic melodies, and harsh vocals, the duo declares its independence and delivers a hymn to uniqueness. Sexists and racists get their deserved share in Scum, and How To Create A Monster is an irresistible piece of electronic dance music: energetic, epic, and more seducing than a Kirlian camera.

I think that my opinion on this album may be biased due to my unforgiving love of Halloween, but Santa Hates You really brought out the spirit of the dark holiday with their new release of "It's Alive!"

The intro will bring you back to old fashioned horror movies, specifically Frankenstein, and sets the mood for the rest of the album with the sounds of pouring rain and lightning bolts. Right after, you are smashed straight into the grit of the album with "Independence," which isn't too harsh of a song, a little more lax than a few of their other songs, and not so Holiday oriented as the rest of the songs, but still manages to give you a kick in the ass.

Scum then comes along, which gets you really pent up, and which has a lot of humorous, albeit stinging political and cultural statements. It's a great song to listen to before getting into an argument with a coworker or friend or relative right before talking about current political developments, but just be aware that it is extremely visceral and will leave you wanting to punch a kitten in the face.

The rest of the album then wanders straight off into the Halloween theme, having "How to Create a Monster", "Rise!", "Are You Scared", "Fight Truth Decay", "Slightly Dead", "Skeletal Parade", and "It's Alive!" It's a great album for Halloween parties, but also just a fun album altogether to listen to when you just wanna get in that spooky mood.

I got this at a Pawn Shop for 50 cents. Seriously, IT WASN'T WORTH THAT MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!! This so-called vampire-industrial-goth-whatever group has ZERO TALENT!! If you want something good in the genre try Blutengel, Combichrist, Suicide Commando, Mordacious etc; NOT THESE FREAKS. FYI, I would've given it no stars if I could.
