5.0 out of 5 stars A no-nonsense, refreshing & useful approach.
I purchased Wyatt Webb's book after listening to him on Hay House radio. This is not one of those new agey books out there written by people who don't really tell you how it is. You won't get lots of gooey talk and Ego stroking telling you that all you have to do is think positive.

2.0 out of 5 stars Some bad language in book
I was thinking about buying the book, until I looked inside to research it, and found some inappropriate words, that I don't think belong in there. The f word turned me off right away, and I didn't go any further. Surely there could have been better word choices.

I purchased Wyatt Webb's book after listening to him on Hay House radio. This is not one of those new agey books out there written by people who don't really tell you how it is. You won't get lots of gooey talk and Ego stroking telling you that all you have to do is think positive.

Wyatt Webb deals with real trauma, and other people's pain. His experience is authentic, raw, tough, and shows tremendous courage in hitting rock bottom, climbing out, and then voluntarily using his gifts to help others.

As an adult child of a recovered alcoholic & parent with a rare narcissitic personality disorder, I highly recommend Wyatt's book because the one thing adult children of abuse needs is security - confirmation that the bad stuff did happen, and life is not all roses. If we don't have acceptance, we continue the pathologically closed loop that allows us to turn a blind eye to further injustices being perpetrated.

The world is an awesome place, and our birthright is to be powerful, focussed, and creative in our lives. Overcoming fear and self-doubt, which Webb says almost always is sourced from trauma, has to be good for you.

A great book from someone who knows firsthand of the challenges some of us have to overcome, and I would recommend it to anyone that wants to take their fear head on to permanently release it, instead of allowing it to unconsciously rule you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful and Inspiring, January 12, 2003

Pam C. (Lake Forest, IL United States) - See all my reviews
I loved Wyatt Webb's book. I had the pleasure of meeting Wyatt in person at Miraval, purchased the book there (actually it was purchased for me by a friend), and read the entire book on the plane ride back home to Chicago. I found the book to be interesting, informative and most of all inspiring; offering useful tips on how you, too, could change your life. I also think that the review that criticizes Wyatt for "taking all the credit" for equine therapy is unfounded - in no way does he state or imply that he is the sole or only practitioner of this type of therapy. This book is simply the VERY INSPIRING story of his life, including the role that equine therapy has played in it.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of the most profound books i have ever read, November 20, 2002
By A Customer
i was fortunate enough to take wyatt's equine experience at miraval. 3 hours together with wyatt did more for me than 6 years of therapy. it was truly amazing. who would have thought that grooming a horse would tell me so much about the way i live my life. but as wyatt shows, the way we do anything is the way we do everything.

for those of you who can GO TO MIRAVAL for the WYATT WEBB INTENSIVES, i HIGHLY ENCOURAGE you to BUY THIS BOOK and GO there. for those of you who cannot, YOU SIMPLY MUST BUY THIS BOOK. it WILL help you CHANGE YOUR LIFE!

all of us live with fear and self doubt and those two emotions cripple our ability to live the life we want to live. the stories in this book are real. the transformations miraculous. i have seen them. they have happened to me in my own life and i have seen them happen in the life of others. WYATT WEBB IS REAL.

do yourself a favor, BUY YOURSELF a copy of "it's not about the horse" right NOW! and if you have a REALLY GOOD FRIEND, BUY IT FOR THEM as well. they will really appreciate it.

i only hope it will do for you what it has done for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Integrity and realness, March 28, 2003
By
Its Not About The Horse!, is a book of honesty, integrity and devotion. I have had the pleasure of meeting Wyatt Webb and found him to be the "real deal" and not a competitive, saftey seeker. It takes courage to devote your life to helping others because it makes you vulnerable to those who choose blame and jealousy as a life path. Not Wyatt, his book was a labor of his life's work and his sincere desire to help others, not only ovecome fear and self doubt, but their darkest shadows. I have had the opportunity to share this book with friends, staff members and many others and I have witnessed the life changing transformations, which also includes myself. Wyatt is colorful, kind, honest, respectful and most of all safe, in a profession that requires health. A review is only as healthly as the person writing the review. The expression of Wyatt Webb is direct, safe and loving. I know several people who are grateful for Wyatt Webb and his orginal expression. I am personally grateful for Wyatt's direct, creative and unique way of allowing others to access their true feelings. I look forward to Wyatt's next release. This book is a must read for those who really are serious about change and transformation!

5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging and Insightful, November 21, 2002

I was moved and educated by this book.
The way the author opened himself up and was honest about his dysfunctional childhood, drug addiction and general personal problems made him human. To read that his journey to heal that past prompted him to want to share and help others heal is incredibly inspiring. The unconventional method he uses with horses to get to the "core of the matter" is brilliant. What a terrific combination: someone who's "been there" and can speak from first hand experience and the power, simple intelligence and beauty of horses. I can't say enough about what reading this book has meant to me. Thank you Wyatt Webb for having the nerve and strength to put your life and this book together.

5.0 out of 5 stars He ain't no horse whisperer, but he is the REAL Wyatt Webb!, October 30, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Wyatt Webb makes clear in the first sentence of his book that he is NOT a horse whisperer. And even before that (on the book cover in fact) he makes clear that it's NOT about the horse. As a psychotherapist and author I believe that coming to terms with what is NOT the truth is an excellent first step toward discovering what IS the truth. So let me tell you some other things this book is NOT:

It's NOT just another self-help book

It's NOT just a memoir

It's NOT to be taken lightly

Now, something about what Wyatt Webb's book IS:

It's Not About The Horse is a rare find in that it is as enjoyable as it is useful and as inspirational as it is practical. This is far more than a book about the life and times of Wyatt Webb (which makes for some pretty interesting reading by the way). This book is about all of us. It is, to use Wyatt's words, "about how we relate to all living things."

Read this book and you will know yourself a little (or maybe a lot) better. And when you finish it, you will feel like you know Wyatt Webb too. More importantly, you will be glad to know him.

5.0 out of 5 stars REAL INSPIRATION, September 19, 2002
By A Customer
There are so many so-called "inspirational" books in the marketplace that read like nonsense. Not this one which, by the way, has no connection to "The Horse Whisperer." This book offers real inspiration in relating Wyatt Webb's unusual form of therapy for troubled souls who seek him out in Tucson. Call it horse sense, or second sense or sixth sense, if you like, but reading this book makes you want to take a flight to Arizona for a personal session with the cowboy who employs observation of a person's interraction with horses to unearth his clients deep-seated problems. The man who emerges is a true character who has more dimension than the fly-by-night types who clutter the media with their overnight "cures." "It's Not About the Horse" really is about a horse but, more importantly, the unusual man behind the therapy that involves them. It's a solid read that makes you want to know even more about Webb. who sounds as colorful as the southwest itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's not about what it says--it's about what it does!, November 13, 2003
There is an old Sufi saying that paraphrased goes like this: It's not what a book says, but what a book does, that matters. I just read the best self-help book that I have read in the past ten to fifteen years-perhaps based on the Sufi saying, the best of my lifetime. The book is not the best written nor does it provide the most profound insights to the human condition. What it does do is touch everyone that reads it in a unique way. I have shared the book with many because I thought my love of horses might have influenced my decision. No, the book simply uses the horse as a backdrop to open people up to themselves, and the stories that follow reach deep into the soul and one laughs, or cries--but everyone feels this book in a meaningful way.

4.0 out of 5 stars Engaging and Inspiring, March 15, 2004
By A Customer
"It's Not about the Horse" is one of the most concise and readable discussions on, as Wyatt Webb says, discovering how we can do things differently. This little book is chock full of easy to grasp and swallow morsels of wisdom. Webb's voice is relevant, irreverent, at times hilarious, and honest. He shines a light on many truths in a uniquely accessible and engaging manner without writing whole chapters about each one. He manages to walk you straight toward some of the most difficult doors we all stand before as human beings and open them up with a simple, down-to-earth understanding that comes directly from his own painful journey.

Most of this book lives true to the title, however it does seem that Webb's approach could be summed up by his belief that working with horses offers one the opportunity to "get real or get lost". (He does have a kind of `take no prisoners' way about him.) He shows us a glimpse of how he got real and offers us his guidance in finding our way back home. I think this book would be useful to just about anyone who picked it up.

Really like the way so much is said without taking 500 pages to say it. Helped me see some of what I have been doing wrong... and my friends as well. Very easy to read. A lifetime of experiences all condensed in to concrete examples you can probably relate to.
