Manu Katche has played on such albums as Sting's "Soul Cages" and Peter Gabriel's "So" and "Us". This is Manu's first solo album and it features many outstanding players. Manu's french accent comes through and adds a different flavor to pop. For a long time only available as a Japanese Import, this rare album was an inspiration for Peter Gabriel's "Us" album and contains the original version of "Silence" which Peter put on his "Plus From Us" compilation. Track #5 "Go Getter" has an amazing groove building up to a bass solo played on harmonics by Pino Palladino which is more intense then I can describe, specially after David Rhodes comes in with acoustic guitar and Manu ripps back in with the groove with the bass harmonics still going. Check this album out, if you are a Sting or Peter Gabriel CD collector and think you have all of the albums they are on...think again, you need this album for that title!

As a percussionist myself, I've always appreciated Manu's distinct style. On this, he did this CD right around the time he was touring with Peter Gabriel for the US tour back in the early 1990's... so it still has more of a rock/pop sound than it does of a jazz release like a lot of his recent work.

My favorite song is the one - "Cry of Passion" - very tasty... and he's not all that bad of a singer either... actually, quite good. Yet when he sticks to distinctive drum riffs, this release is worth its weight.

While I don't care for all the songs, as a fan of Manu's music, it was a must to reacquire this rare recording back into my collection.

I'm glad I did.

Well done, Manu.

I have several solo albums done by my favorite drummers, and while my main complaint about these albums is that they tend to over-emphasize the other talents of the drummers (usually singing), they at least contain one track where he/she shows off his/her talents that made him/her famous in the first place. Unfortunately, this CD does not contain even one track fitting this description. For example, Katche's playing on Julia Fordham's "Manhattan Skyline" alone shows more chops than this whole album. The songwriting and musicians on the CD are decent enough, but keep searching if you're looking for what makes Katche special.
