5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent album, but the SACD does have flaws January 20, 2012
Format:Audio CD
This is an excellent jazz album with two outstanding jazz organists. However as mentioned by one reviewer, the SACD does have flaws which cause problems in a couple of tracks. These flaws appear to be only on the SACD layer; as far as I can tell, the CD layer has no problems. In spite of the flaws, this is a favorite out of hundreds of jazz albums I own.

The pairing of two generations of soul-jazz masters - jazz organ pioneer Jack McDuff and the leading keeper of the jazz organ flame, Joey DeFrancesco, resulted in an instant classic. Although Joey had appeared prior to this recording sessions on Jack's "Write On Capt'n" (playing trumpet), "It's About Time" was the first studio recording to pair the two organ masters playing Hammond B-3's head to head. Quite the sparring match with his voracious protege also from The City Of Brother Love Joey DeFrancesco... Concord Jazz [CCD-4893] CD 1991

3.0 out of 5 stars the two of you June 18, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
this project reflects Joey D's respect for his senior colleagues of the Hammond organ although his mentor is the incredible Jimmy Smith. My son Phil Jamel Johnson also is an organist that has been inspired by Jimmy and Joey. Keep up the good work Joey. you are an inspiration to many

4.0 out of 5 stars My first defective SACD. March 17, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Regrettably I got a defective copy with sound muting at the end of track 2 and during most of track 3. The rest is fine. Sadly, I got a refund from Amazon, since they were not able to replace it. As far as music is concerned, Joey de Francesco more or less follow the footsteps of jazz organist Jimmy Smith and that is not bad per se. And McDuff is a pioneer in his own right.

The Jimmy Smith album transfers to CD, BTW, is not complete. Until today I miss "Monster", with Oliver Nelson, for example. And I can't find an explanation why.
