4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, Very nice.
This should've been better, as Morris Day and The Time are one of the most underrated musical collaborations of the last 25 years. As a supporting group for Prince and the Revolution, they were capable of outperforming Prince's band (I personally witnessed this in New Orleans in '83), and they still have a great show even today (saw them in Dallas in 2004). 3.0 out of 5 stars Morris is still the man!
As you have read the other reviews, this album could have been way more LIVE!It's such a waste 2 have The Time on a live album and have the songs cut short and have certain words censored(What the Funk?).I still love hearing these jams though and the four new cuts show that Morris can change with the "times".Did you know that Prince named Morris as his favourite drummer...

The live songs here are okay, but the production could have been better (louder) and Morris Day's expletives could have been left in, since all of us real fans from the day are old enough to handle a few cuss words. As for the 4 new songs, they served only as a tease. C'mon Morris, you and your people have had enough time to come up with more songs than that! Could've called in some favors from Prince, Jam, Jesse, Sheila, even George Clinton, and given us 11 or 12 new cuts.
Overall, if you know anything about The Time, this is a tour de force that was long overdue. It's hard to understand the thinking that prevented any of the Prince Extended Family from putting out official live material until Prince's 2002 "One Nite Alone...Live!" as these guys were huge concert attractions. Thank Heavens for the bootleggers;)

Morris Day's new album, "It's About Time," is worth your money. However, there are some problems that need to be discussed. Firstly, only 4 tracks are new-the rest being live renditions of some of Day and the Time's best material. This Isn't a bad thing, as all of the live material is excellent.

Two inexplicable and regrettable alterations to the live tracks include muting of expletives(even the benign "ass" is removed) and the muting of crowd noise. The live stuff still rocks, though. Only two of the new songs are above average: "Ain't a Damn Thing Changed" and "In My Ride," which features the can't-miss flavor of Day plus equally quirky rapper E-40. If you already like Morris Day and the Time, buy this.

4.0 out of 5 stars LIVE With The Time, July 11, 2004

I was in the front row at the Prince concert in LA on June 5, 2004 (Staples Arena) when Morris Day & The Time did a surprise opening for the show. They were great! The first 8 songs on the CD are recorded LIVE. Track 7 titled "Girl" written and produced by Day and Prince (I mean Jamie Starr) is excellent, as all the old songs written by Starr. This CD is an "old school" must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT 4 what it is..., August 20, 2004

Let me just say this. For what this CD is, it is fantastic. The 'live' renditions of the songs R GREAT, and the 4 new tracks R very good ('2 Drink Minimum' being my favorite). This CD hasn't left my player since I bought it a week ago. But Morris, the next CD....all new material PLEASE. The 4 new tracks simply aren't enough. Simply put, Morris Day still does what he does best...creates great funk.

That's some major publicity and respect. I hope The Time come out with a full length album with all the original members, we need a change in this boring age of typical R&B.If you really want live check out Cameo's album "Nasty"(serious funk).

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, should have been better..., June 24, 2004

I concur with A Music Fan from Nashville re: the "live" tracks. The sound quality itself is really good (for a live recording), but why edit out the crowd's reaction/participation?? Also, there are obvious "gaps" in the vocals where Hollywood Record edited out what were apparently "naughty" words. (Naughty words? ITS MORRIS DAY... that's the whole POINT.) I'll be my own censor, thank you, Hollywood Records.

As for the new studio tracks, the songs themselves are fine, but they REALLY point up how superior actual LIVE MUSCIANS are when compared to programmed drums/bass/keyboards (which is what was used on the studio tracks). Had the studio tracks been recored with actual LIVE MUSICIANS I'd have given this CD 4 stars...

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally! It IS about Time!!, August 23, 2004
This review is from: It's About Time (Audio CD)
Most of the reviews I read were positive-those are the real fans! I knew I loved this CD before I even bought it. I must have listened to it 80 times by now. It's worth EVERY penny and any fan should definitely own it! Like the 9th track on the CD states "Not a damn thing changed!" Morris will always be Morris and whoever got to see the Time open for Prince (seeing him three times in San Jose) I am SO jealous :). This CD is a real winner!

I may be the biggest Time fan. This was okay and Morris shows how he can adjust to the "New School" and keep it Old School style. Just hope this is a taste of what's to come. (Ain't a Damn Thang Change!)

3.0 out of 5 stars 8 Live tunes,4 whack new ones. I want my TIME back!, October 8, 2004

Look, forget the 4 new songs. If you like those, you'll dig GUARANTEED. This is MORRIS DAY live on IT'S ABOUT TIME doin' 7 TIME joints and 1 of his own.

Now let's define 'live album'. A live album is continuous, right? Non-stop? Like a concert setting? Every live song on this album either fades or ends like a studio recording. Usually, you hear a crowd between songs. Maybe you can hear what I can't hear.
Don't get me wrong,it's good to hear "Girl","Jungle Love","Get It Up","Gigolos Get Lonely Too","Fishnet","Cool" and more. Why throw in new material with an old school outing.

One of Morris' new songs is titled "Ain't A Damn Thing Changed". Morris, you're living in a bad time warp. Although the live joints are a little short, they make this here CD happen. While your new stuff is 'oops out of TIME'!
