5.0 out of 5 stars One of the all time greatest and most under rated vocalists
The quality of this cd is perfect. I get sick of people with these cheap cd players complaining about cd quality. Tommy had one of the most romantic voices in pop music history- he was truly a magnificent singer. I rate him high in the ranks with Nat Cole, Mathis,Sinatra, and Dino. Personally, I love discovering songs by artists that the radio never played due to payola...

3.0 out of 5 stars memories and surprises
Memories from the 50's and 60's embraced us as we listened to some of our favorite "courting songs" and we enjoyed new ones as well.

Personally, I love discovering songs by artists that the radio never played due to payola and back room poltics. Just because a song wasn't a hit doesnt mean it wasn't a great song. This cd is for the pure romanticist. So snuggle up,dim the lights, light a candle, chill a bottle of wine and prepare to meet the dawn. How about all of us writing and starting a campaign to get the state of Virgina to change the state song to "It's all in the game". Tommy was from Richmond.

Tommy Edwards is one of my all-time favorite singers of love songs. I have his records - yes, records - and they are all scratched from use. I tried to buy them in 2nd hand stores and they cost between $35-50 dollars each - AND are still scratched. I checked for cassettes years ago and was told they never made any of his albums on cassette. How excited I was to find I can now buy them on CDs. He is a legend to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars This type of album makes me sad., December 8, 2000

Why? Because this was the golden age of music and hearing the stuff that is put out today (I listen to Bay Area Rap), it makes me long for the times when I would have heard this on the radio, or danced to it with a lovely lady. Many times when people ask me what CDs I like, and I reply, 'It's All In the Game' by Tommy Edwards, they believe Tommy Edwards to be another rap artist. I'm 18 and guess I was born about 40 years too late. This album is grea to relax to, romance the fly hunnies or use the lyrics to sings to the ladies at thier doorsteps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, wonderful, November 1, 2001

This review is from: It's All In the Game - The Complete Hits of Tommy Edwards (Audio CD)
A very sweet guy with a beautiful voice and relaxed style, Tommy Edwards never had the ambition to really get to the top in show business. Nevertheless, he made a lot of hit records for M-G-M and scored one of the most unusual comebacks in record history by rerecording his earlier hits with a gentle rock beat a decade after his original success. Tommy's records were just beautiful and beautifully produced. This album is simply wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Album. Very high quality recording., February 28, 1999

Perhaps the "SLEEPER ALBUM" of all times. Tommy Edwards has one of the greatest voices in Pop Music history - rivaled only by the likes of Nat King Cole. Every song is wonderfully romantic. Will literally send shivers down your spine. Highly recommended.

If this cd doesn't do anything for you, time to check your pulse ! Along with his trademark hit, "IT'S ALL IN THE GAME", Tommy Edwards will be most endurably remembered for "PLEASE LOVE ME FOREVER", "MY MELANCHOLY BABY", "LOVE IS ALL WE NEED", "PLEASE MR. SUN", and "THE MORNING SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN". The music world will miss him dearly !!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tommy Touches You Heart And Soul, April 7, 2006
This review is from: It's All In the Game - The Complete Hits of Tommy Edwards (Audio CD)
Tommy's voice is right up there with all the great crooners of the last century.

His was a Heaven sent voice.

I wasn't even born when Tommy was making his greatest hits but I just love him to bits. They should make a movie about the great Tommy Edwards. :)

His "Morning Side Of The Mountain" touches my heart. :)

His "It's All In The Game" touches my soul. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars The ultimate collection in the best sound possible., February 14, 2008
This review is from: It's All In the Game - The Complete Hits of Tommy Edwards (Audio CD)
This is the best CD of the late great Tommy Edwards on the market.

Tommy Edwards was a very sucessful singer from the 1950's. With hit records like "Its all in the game" "Mr Music Man" and "Morning side of the mountain".

He started by writing songs and trying to sell them, but after finding limited sucess in selling his music and more than a little pinched for cash, he decided to sing the songs himself. Thank goodness he did as his voice was very special indeed.

Not dissimular to the legendary Nat King Cole, but amazingly Tommy Edwards was never to get anything like the recognition that Nat did. Why is a mystery, if anything arguably Tommy's music was a little more in tune with the late 50's sound and should of appealed to a larger audience. After a lull in sales around 1958 Tommy's record company "MGM" were close to terminating his contract, when he was persueded to re-record his previous hit "Its all in the game" with a gentle rock n roll / doo-wop beat, he was on to an instant winner.

Number one in the charts was achieved and Tommy's flagging career was reinvented. He continued to re-record other hits he had in the early 1950's and released an album named after his number one hit record that was very sucessful. "Its all in the game 1958" was followed by more beautiful albums,
"For Young Lovers 1959",
"You started me dreaming 1959",
"Step Out Singing 1960",
"In Hawaii 1960",
"Sings Golden Country Hits 1961",
"Stardust 1961",
"Soft strings and two guitars 1962".
All worth checking out if you can find these rare LP's.
I have been collecting them for years and have managed to transfer them all on to the compact disc format with outstanding sound quality.
Tommy was equally as prolific in the 7" singles market with many great records released between 1951 and 1966. He had further hits too with "My Melancholy baby" and the Gene Pitney penned "Blue Heartaches". By 1962 his star had faded slightly and his last single for MGM the beautiful "Love is best of all" sank without trace. He was back for another label "Musicor" in 1965 but despite some great recordings the music industry had well and truly moved on by this time and no more comebacks were possible.

This CD contains the big hits and the great memories of Tommy Edwards fro that late 50's early 60's hit period. A nice touch on the CD is the inclusion of the original 1951 "Its all in the game" and Tommy's beautiful 1954 recording of the Doris Day classic "Secret Love". Tommy was best at singing a beautiful ballad, but he also dabbled in swing and jazz and country music with great sucess too. He was very versatile and his voice never let him down. It is great to hear these songs re-mastered from stereo recordings and done with such care and attention to detail. This is the ultimate CD of "Tommy Edwards" that you can buy, and it gives detaild information such as chart positions and liner notes of great interest. Sadly Tommy died in 1969 and it would be all to easy for the music world to overlook this talented man, I hope that never happens and new releases like this should help to keep Mr Edwards in peoples minds. I am a true fan and I will always appreciate his music and his talent.

Tommy Edwards had a pleasant voice and smooth style. He was (similiar to Pat Boone) able to appeal to both fans of the standards and rock n'roll. Yes, the arrangements date the songs a bit as they're done in the typical beat/ballad sytle of the late 50s/early 60s. But they hold up well probably because Tommy sings them superbly.
