Prime Cuts: Somebody's Mama, No Truck, No Boat, No Girl, I Can't Take My Eyes off You

Nichols is fond of taking it all off. With song titles like "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off" and "Take It Off," Nichols continues his striptease with this new disc. Instead of donning his music with over the top poly-theatrics and contrived radio songs, Nichols strips his music down to an easy relaxing pace with songs wizened with seasoned wisdom. With producers Buddy Cannon and Mark Wright on board, this is decidedly a country record with a rustic blend of delightful twin fiddles and mournful steel that can be heard all the way through these 10 cuts. Taking a remedial from his hero George Strait, Nichols has packed this album with quality songs with memorable hooks and affecting lyrics. In fact, these tracks have such a "Strait" quality to them that this could easily have been an album cut by George Strait himself. Like Strait, Nichols shows loyalty to the motley crew of songwriters that have blessed him with fabulous tunes in the past including Georgia Middleman ("Don't Ruin It for the Rest of Us"), Gary Burr ("This Bed's Too Big"), Rivers Rutherford ("Ain't Nobody Gonna Take That From Me") and Rhett Akins ("Gimme That Girl").

Nichols has taken the adage "don't fix what's not broken" to heart. Being one who loves songs that take provocative catch phrases like "Size Matters" and "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off," Nichols does it again with album's lead single "Take It Off." Though the title might sound flirtatiously superficial, "Take It Off" is deeper than the title suggests. This Dallas Davidson, Kelly Lovelace and Ashley Gorley co-write actually deals with issue of enjoying life by taking off our worries and frustrations.

I've been a Joe Nichols fan since day 1. His rich baritone is as good as Randy Travis and other legends. After a slight weak last album, Joe is back with a superb collection of songs. For me, the stand-out track is 'No Truck, No Boat, No Girl' written by Adam Wright, Jay Knowles. It's reminiscent of a Don Williams classic with Joe singing the catchy lines perfectly.
Whiskey gets better with age and so does Joe's voice. 'Somedoby's Mama' is another favourite of mine and no surprise it was penned by David Lee Murphy.
So far it's peaked on the country charts at 19 (at time of writing) but this is surely set to hit the top 5 at least!

This is what good country music is all about.

Joe has done another great album. While there aren't a lot of high-energy songs, it is a great cd. The whole cd has a relaxed, content feel to it. The title track "It's all good" is an easy-going tune that helps remind us that "even if it all goes bad...it's all good." There are a lot of great songs on here. It is just more of the classic Joe nichols country music we know and love

Joe this cd is terrific. Joes history of a really rotten start in life and what that does to a person Is earnest and this cd is really triumphant reflecting a kids betrayal/heartbreak and evolution towards love, trust and positivity. Really fun, upbeat and SO positive.

Joe Nichols has a really classic sound. He shares the timeless quality of George Strait and Alan Jackson. Once again, he proves the staying power of being honest with music and lyrics.
