5.0 out of 5 stars Another swell, swank rockabilly record from Ms. Lenz, June 18, 2009
This review is from: It's All True! (Audio CD)
Kim Lenz & The Jaguars
"It's All True!"
(Riley Records, 2009)
------------------------------------------------
This is a swell indie set from rockabilly revivalist Kim Lenz, packed with mostly original songs, all but four of which were written by Lenz herself. Guests that include SoCal retrobilly icon Big Sandy, who sings a nice duet on the Sun Records-y "He's All Mine," though to be sure Lenz and her band hold their own just fine on the rest of the record. Highlights include novelty numbers such as the Lenz original, "Zombie For Your Love," and the sizzling "Burning Rubber," where guitarist Nick Curran cuts loose with some super-wicked riffs, the kind of stuff you used to hear on old Mickey Baker records. Check it out! (DJ Joe Sixpack, Slipcue Guide To Country Music)

4.0 out of 5 stars It's very true!, July 7, 2009
This review is from: It's All True! (Audio CD)
The sassy red haired vixen of rockabilly is back! Kim Lenz returns and brings her top-notch band The Jaguars in tow to further provide evidence that she rightfully owns the crown on the current rockabilly scene. Lenz's album, "It's All True!" contains seven originals, a duet with Big Sandy and two covers. Obviously, Kim Lenz owes a debt to Wanda Jackson but she shows that she is capable of holding her own on this release.

"It's All True!" was produced by Lenz who expertly captures the warm guitar tones and heavy bass sounds of the jump blues. The sexy "Touch Me" opens the album with Lenz's patented growl. Her guitar licks on this track are very fluid and dynamic while not being too flashy. The Jaguars shouldn't be slighted as the band proves itself a great foil to Lenz's guitar heroics. Jake Erwin's bass skills are evident on the album but most notably on the bouncy Texas Swing of "Ramblin Feeling."

Big Sandy contributes a rocking duet on "He's All Mine," a number crafted expressly for Kim by the Lucky Stars' Sage Guyton. Elsewhere "Speed Limit" shakes and rattles surely guaranteed to get your blood pumping by the guitar solo. By the time the album reaches the closer, "Shined Up and Ready to Shout" you'll know Lenz means it. As a cohesive listening experience, "It's All True!" doesn't feature one bum note or limitation. Lenz proves that she's adept in rockabilly and the subgenres as well. Kim Lenz is one guitar slinger who shouldn't wait so long between albums!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's all true ! Yes it is..., March 16, 2010
This review is from: It's All True! (Audio CD)
At last ! Ten years after her last studio album (a time she employed to have and grow up a baby) Kim Lenz is back with former Jaguars Nick Curran (guitar), Scotty Tecce (drums) and Jake Erwin (double bass). Did the maternity tame her? Well, not at all. On the contrary she's wild as ever and she comes back with an album almost too hot to handle as the opening track Touch Me proves, on which she penned seven songs. Filled with high octane rockabilly (Lenz vocals and Curran's guitar blend particularly well), it also features hillbilly harmonies, a bit of jazz with I'll Tell You When written for Kim by Sage Guyton of The Lucky Stars and even a waltz, I Break A Heart Every Night, that benefits of superb harmonies from Scotty Tecce's side band The Fabulous Harmonaires. Icing on the cake, Big Sandy contributes one superb rockabilly on which he duets with the fiery redhead and co-wrote another.
Good to see you back, Miss Lenz !

Kim's new album really rocks and every song hits the nail on the head. Well worth the money. Nick Curran's guitar work is killer. Buy it!
