5.0 out of 5 stars R&B classic!

Whoa, I was completely blown away by this CD. When I first heard the single "I Like That" on the radio, it was kinda annoying because they played it every half hour. But eventually the song grew on me and then I saw the video on MTV and it became on of my favorites. I bought the single and listened to it alot. Then I heard that it was going to come out on Aug...

3.0 out of 5 stars 3-1/2 stars -- Not as disposable as you might think
I've read the negative reviews for Houston's debut album It's Already Written, and now I'm wondering if people really listened to the whole album or if they just listened to "I Like That". Whoa, I was completely blown away by this CD. When I first heard the single "I Like That" on the radio, it was kinda annoying because they played it every half hour. But eventually the song grew on me and then I saw the video on MTV and it became on of my favorites. I bought the single and listened to it alot. Then I heard that it was going to come out on Aug. 10 and I finally bought it once I found it. This CD is awesome, with soft R&B songs like "Love You Down" and "My Promise", club hits like "I Like That" and "Keep It On The Low", and several interludes, this R&B album promises to be a keeper and a great CD to listen to for years to come. It's one of the best CDs I've bought in awhile. If you haven't bought it yet, go buy and join in the greatness!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars 3-1/2 stars -- Not as disposable as you might think, October 7, 2004

I've read the negative reviews for Houston's debut album It's Already Written, and now I'm wondering if people really listened to the whole album or if they just listened to "I Like That". All people are really saying is that Houston is going to be a one-hit wonder with that song. As far as MY feelings for the song, I think it's basically one of those songs to play in the club, because it has a catchy beat yet no real subject matter. But it's still a listenable song, and the rest of the album is pretty good too.

Houston may not be breaking any new ground with this record, but he has a nice voice that's used to deliver good songs like "Ain't Nothing Wrong" and "What You Say". And his remake of Ready For the World's "Love You Down" is decent, but when you're listening to it, you just can't help but to get that "been there, done that" feeling, especially since a lot of the lyrics in that song really didn't age very well (the entire first verse, for example).

There aren't necessarily any skippable songs on this album, but some of the songs could use a little work, like "Didn't Give a Damn", a song about his absentee father. There's also an obligatory Jazze Phizzle productizzle, "Allright", and I really don't understand why Jazze Pha always introduces the new artist on a track that's located in the middle of the album (the same thing happened on Ruben Studdard's album). Oh well, while Houston might not win any awards with this album, it's still good enough to get the party started.

P.S. In response to another reviewer, I love me some Angie Stone and Van Hunt, but just because you're not in the same vein as them doesn't mean you're a bad singer.

I must say this album is actually good. This boy can sing his ass off and the remake of Love You Down alone makes this album worth it. GOOD JOB!!

3.0 out of 5 stars This was a good first album, August 28, 2004
This review is from: It's Already Written (Audio CD)
Houston's album is that good. I was surprised. I liked I Like That and it's hip-hop sounds, but the rest of the album is just as superb. I love his remake of Ready For The World's Love Me Down--that was the JAM back in 1986! He really tore it up on there and they were smart to update some lyrics to today to keep it from being dated. The other songs are strong and showcase his voice more. He's not quite there yet musically, but the next album, he will find other people to broaden his vocal stylings and talents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Debut Album!!!, March 12, 2005
This review is from: It's Already Written (Audio CD)

I noticed a lot of ppl dissing this album, and thats fair 'nuf, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and are into different types of music (NB: rap is not always hip hop, hip hop can be r&b, all can be mixed successfully). I think why most ppl didnt like the album is coz they were expecting more songs like the club smash "I Like That".

Houston's singing style is R&B, which he does incredibly well for a young'un! Plus, he proved his smooth vocals can work in all genres. Some examples:

"I like that" is hip-hop, it gets everyone on the dancefloor;
"Keep it on the low" is dancehall (and should've been his 2nd single, it's that good and it really shows off his vocal skills, and heard it in a club the other day - everyone was winin n grinin to it);
"Ain't nothing wrong" is a slow jam that sets the perfect atmosphere for the first time with a new love;
"Twizala" is an R&B track, the lyrics show Houston isn't a wannabe thug like the rest of them playas.

I could go on...but i'll leave you to buy it and see what i mean.
I can honestly say there isn't a single song on this album that i don't like. It really is the best album i've heard for a very long time. The boy has talent, it's obvious.

So all you haters out there, if you want "hip-hop", go find Chingy's album. Houston's "It's Already Written" on the other hand, is a very impressive collection of deep thoughts, catchy chorus lines, and smooth, intelligent beats.

A MUST BUY.

Peace out.

1.0 out of 5 stars Houston we have a problem, August 13, 2004

I had the honors, if you can call it that, to receive a free download of this cd. Not familiar with Houston, I decided to at least give it a good listen. Well, i am so glad it was free. Not to be too harsh, but this is a typical singer, with a typical sound. None of the cuts really moved me. There are a few slow jams, and some rap, but other than that I don't think this cd will break any records or receive any awards. I was just not feeling this guy. Maybe his next effort will be better. But I do give the guy his props for having a cd out, However, Houston we have a problem. 1*

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good, August 13, 2004
This review is from: It's Already Written (Audio CD)
Houston has a some pretty good joints on this album. Of course yall know the Radio played out "I Like That", which is still good, but he also has some pretty decent joints from Hip Hop, Reggae, and R&B/Soul. I believe his mellow R&B joints were his best on his cd, especially the songs "Ain't Nothing Wrong", "What you say", and my favorite, "She Is". I also like the personal "Didn't Give a Damn". Pretty good and ends with the short track "It's Already Written pt. 2 (Thunder)", and thats a pretty decent joint where u can hear thunder and Houston singing "Thunder" Talking bout God, and puts his tribute to God. Overall its pretty good, I believe he can do better, but its not a bad cd. I'd recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compassion for a young man, February 5, 2005

Hopefully the whole world is not nearly as jaded as the previous reviewer. Please don't comment on what someone else is going through unless you have walked in their shoes. Have some compassion for Houston and please remember that fame and fortune do not equal happiness. Crazy thought, huh? Well, just pay attention, there's a lot more to life than bling, women and fame. Pray for Houston, he has tremendous talent. Hopefully he can recover and move on in whatever he chooses for himself.

3.0 out of 5 stars An alright album from Houston, January 29, 2007
This review is from: It's Already Written (Audio CD)
Its unfortunate that it took an eye-gouging incident for people to check out this album but hey that's how it is. The first single I Like That is an okay single but its not as memorable as Keep It On The Low(produced by the ever so underrated Soulshock & Karlin)and Allright(produced by Jazze Pha, who needs to keep his corny introductions to himself). My Promise and Aint Nothing Wrong are two love jams that might have gave the album the boost it needed if they were released as singles. She is is another beautiful cut that kind of sounds like its trying to be a male version of Heather Headley's He Is. Skip Material:Twizala(and was the intro before the song necessary?), Bye Bye Love, Didnt Give A Damn(half-hearted tribute to his deadbeat dad) and Love You Down(these renditions need to stop). Bottom Line: Houston should not be counted out because of this album. There are some songs on here where he shows promise(even though on certain songs he sounds like a young Anthony Hamilton. No disrespect to Anthony). Songs like Aint Nothing Wrong, My Promise, Keep It On The Low show that he might have been a sucess if promoted right. Its sad that he went out the way he did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get this cd, October 7, 2005
This review is from: It's Already Written (Audio CD)
This cd is awesome and so worth the money. Honestly when I first bought it I mostly bought it for "I Like That" which I still havent gotten sick of. After that I listenened to the entire cd and it is great. There is not a bad song on there. I like them all. Houston has such a good mix of uptempo and slow songs and dance club type sounds. He has a good style and is just real cool and smooth with everything. And yes he does have a different type of sound and is the next Usher but doesnt really resemble him. Plus he writes his own lyrics, Usher doesnt. I wish Houston got more publicity and people knew about him more cause he is a superstar in the making. Get this cd you wont be disappointed!!!!
